Bocconi or SSE for MSc in Finance?
Hi everyone! :)
I've got two choices now:
1/ Bocconi MSc in Finance
2/ SSE MSc in Finance
and I was wondering which one would lead to a better career development& study experience?
I’m Chinese, 21; my short-term career goal is to work in IB in Europe, preferably in London;
My concerns are that:
- Those two programs are both two-year, located in a city with fewer opportunities in finance for non-EU. ( Milan VS Stockholm). And I currently cannot speak any of those languages to a fluent level;
- The curriculum at Bocconi seems to be more rigorous and quantitative, but the class size and living experience at SSE is appealing as well;
- Both programs offer full scholarships and the living expenses are affordable, so my concern with the two programs is only the possibility to get a job after graduation. I really care about how strong the career service can be and the alumni network ( would these resources still work for non-EU students?).
I understand how difficult it is to find a position during the Pandemic, so I'd love to hear any opinion from you guys! Thank you so much!
Any particular reason you haven't gone for a UK school like LBS/Said/Judge? They would probably have the most direct pathway into UK banking.
I have applied for Judge but there's no update so far. And I do prefer a two-year's program to fit in, get prepared, and as a buffer against the pandemic. Thank you for your reply ^ ^
You will not be target for London jobs if you are a non-Swedish going to SSE, and all part-time jobs in banking/PE will be reserved for Swedish people so you will be at a major disadvantage.
Also, SSE has a lot fewer international students compared to Bocconi, and typically non-Swedish people will have a harder social life.
Bocconi has a much better alumni network in Europe, if this is what you look for then Bocconi is miles ahead of SSE. Have you taught about applying to LBS GMIM, its a two year master.
Hi! Thank you very much for your inputs! That's a lot helpful. I did hear about Bocconi's better brand name in Europe. But it seems that Bocconi and SSE have approximately the same international students, according to their statistics online. I don't know haha.
And should I take Stockholm/ Milan's economy into consideration if I want to get internship experiences during my study? In that case which city seems better? Though I know it's both hard if I barely don't speak the local language.
P.S. regretfully for Chinese candidates, the LBS Gmim program seems unavailable through the regular application process :( But still thank you for your advice!
From Sweden myself, the internationals at SSE will mainly be people from Norway, Denmark, Germany etc while Bocconi will be from a more variety.
The economy is more or less irrelevant, unless you speak fluent Swedish or fluent Italian you will not get a job within the country, this is at least the case for 99% of the internships in Sweden.
Would pick Bocconi without hesitation.
