Georgetown MSF vs. Villanova MSF
Background: In December 2023, I graduated with degrees in finance and computer science from a semi-to-non-target school. Because of depression and a variety of personal issues, my grades during the first 2 years of undergrad were abominable (I even got three Fs!). Over the last 60 or so credits of my undergrad career, I was able to get my act together and get mostly As. However, this turnaround was only enough to raise my final cumulative GPA to a lackluster 3.25/4.00. I also have a lackluster extracurricular record, consisting of various entrepreneurial activities, one internship with a small business, one internship with a small investment banking and private equity firm, and a part-time externship with a medium-sized venture capital firm. Despite applying to hundreds of firms, from boutiques to BBs, I have consistently been rejected. My connections in the financial sector are limited, and I have not engaged in a great deal of networking yet. So, I have applied to dozens of graduate finance and financial engineering programs with the goal of "resetting" my GPA, making new connections, and launching my career in finance. Recently, I took the GRE and obtained a score of 337/340 (Quantitative: 170/170, Verbal: 167/170), as well as the GMAT Focus and achieved a score of 715 (99th percentile).
Among the 8 schools that I have applied to, I have been accepted by two, Georgetown's MSF and Villanova's MSF, have been rejected by one, Vanderbilt's MSF, and have not heard from the other five (UCLA's MFE, Carnegie Mellon's MSCF, Columbia's MFE, UT Austin's MSF/MSBA, and Berkeley's MFE). However, Georgetown's MSF has an enrollment decision/deposit deadline of April 30th, and it appears highly unlikely that I will hear back from all 5 other schools by then.
As a result, I intend to accept either my Georgetown or Villanova offer, pay the deposit, and if I am accepted to a school higher on my preference list than Georgetown or Villanova later, accept that offer and attend the other school instead.
Therefore, I would appreciate your assistance in helping me decide between Georgetown and Villanova. Georgetown would be much more affordable for me than Villanova. Georgetown is offering me a scholarship of $40K, whereas Villanova is offering me a scholarship of only $9K. "Georgetown" is a more prestigious brand name than "Villanova." However, Georgetown's MSF program is entirely online, which limits the possibility of networking. However, this also makes Georgetown even more affordable for me.
I would appreciate your help in making a decision. Thank you for your time and consideration.
