MSF 2021 Profile Evaluation

Hello WSO users,

I've narrowed down a list programs that I think I have a reasonable chance of getting accepted to and that place well into asset management. I'm looking for some feedback on my competitiveness as an applicant to these programs and their standing as far as recruitment goes.

Profile:

Nationality: South African (White)
School: Stellenbosch University
Undergrad: Bachelors of Engineering Mechanical ( Don't have a GPA conversion, but if I did it could be summed up as poor)
GMAT: 740 (Q48/V42)
CFA: Passed L1 above 90th percentile. Passed L2 above 90th percentile. Writing L3 this June.
Work Experience: Unrelated to finance. 5 years as a design engineer for an automotive company.

Programs:
LBS MFA
UT Austin MSc Fin
Boston College Ms Fin
Vanderbilt Ms Fin
USC MSc Fin
UCLA MFE

I understand the UCLA program is quant focused, but it can't hurt to keep some options open.

Thanks for the feedback.

I would think that only applies to finance related work experience. If you have more than 2 years experience they would prefer you do the MFin.

Its 2 yrs for any I think. Inquired because I wanted to apply, its annoying because I have more than 2 yrs experience but its not finance so can't do MFA or MSF.

Hey, you’re a strong profile - I have some experience with MSF programmes in the UK, don’t short sell yourself by just applying to the LBS MFA - it’s a great course, but it’s not the top course. Aim high!

I've looked at both Oxford and LSE, but I don't see myself being able to differentiate my application enough to stand out in those class profiles. Imperial seemed good but the employment report did not inspire much confidence. Would like to hear your opinion.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Throw your hat into the ring for both Oxford and LSE (HEC Paris MSc International Finance too - it's a great course and a feeder into London IBD, if that's your thing). Please do yourself justice and apply, you never know what could happen. I went for it and it all worked out for me. Trust me, the profiles at some of those programmes are immense, but some aren't quite as stellar as you's think. Re Imperial, good course, good school, not as good as Ox, LSE, LBS, HEC though. If you do apply, make sure to do it before Christmas, you're already getting a bit late to give yourself the best chance.
