Oxford MFE/LBS MBA to London IB

What are the options available to someone doing a master's in Finance / MBA, regarding London recruitment? I've been reading old threads on WSO saying that summer associate MBA roles are pretty much non-existent in London. Is this still the case? Seriously considering an MFE/MBA but want to know if it's actually going to give me enough chances to get into the IB industry.

If you're going to do one, definitely do the MFE and not the MBA. In Europe, MBA's are not as valuable, and the only one in the UK that's respected enough to even justify it is LBS. You will still come in as an analyst though, some banks allow final years (e.g 1 year master) to still do a summer internship, others you'd have to go straight to FT. Hope this helps!

Don't listen to the chumps saying do an MFE blindly - it depends on your current background.

If you have more than 2-3 years of experience an MFE from Oxford or MFA from LBS will mostly likely not be accessible to you. Those programs are designed for early career professionals or new graduates not for people with 3+ years of experience.

An MBA, especially from a top US school, LBS, INSEAD or IESE, makes the most sense if you're in the 3-6 years of experience mark and are looking to make a switch that you otherwise wouldn't be able to do without a considerable grind. In banking a lot of the BBs still take on Associates post-MBA (GS, MS, CS, Citi, BAML, DB etc) and some of the BSBs also do (Nomura, HSBC etc). The only problem is you want have as much access to elite boutiques in London from an MBA program they prefer to promote within, hire laterals or grab former ACA-qualified big4 accountants to replenish their ranks.
