SMU vs UTD PMBA
I have got admit for both SMU and UTD evening cohort PMBA programs.
I will be working and my company pays upto 50K. SMU will cost me additional 45-50K whereas UTD will not.
I am contemplating on which one to go for, I have 9 years of technical experience and will be staying with same company but shift my career towards management.
I am planning to stay with the company and move to different roles for some time. I am also not planning to use any on campus recruiting after the MBA since I will be continue to work with my current company.
If there are any previous UTD or SMU PMBA graduates, can you please advise me on which one to choose and which will be better in the long run for my career.
Given your background and what you want to do post-graduation, I think UTD would be the best fit. There is really no need to go 45-50k in debt for the SMU name, which still isn't that well known outside of Texas.
I believe UTD has better academics but worse recruiting. US News ranks UTD's MBA program as 37th best and SMU's MBA program as 48th best. The only real advantage, that I can think of at SMU, would be potentially better networking opportunities with banks. if you want to stay at your current company then this factor is probably not important.
If I were you I would save the money, go to UTD and use the money saved elsewhere.
I would go with UTD since you're staying with the same company and it is free but phoenixfire is absolutely wrong regarding the quality of education at SMU. I can only speak definitively on the finance courses but the professors there are much more respected than those at UTD.
Given that this sounds like a "check the box, receive a promotion" exercise at your company, you should go to UTD since they'll pay for it. SMU has a better reputation but it won't make a difference in this case.
Thank you all for your insights, this really helps
