a few newb questions

ive been very interested in finance, trading, economics ect. for quite some time. I know a decent amount, but have a few questions. when you all refer to private equity, prop shops ect, what exactly is the definition of that. would it be a hedge fund of sorts? please explain. also, when i go off to college in plan on majoring in finance. my sisters friend is a trader on the cme and i'll be able to do internships and spend time observing him, hopefully get a job with the firm he works at (i dont know what firm he works at, what he trades ect,i need to talk to him more). I would like to get a masters degree, wether it be a masters of finance or mba, whatever it may be, but do you absolutely need work experience to get into a mba program, or can you get in right after college and just continue the schooling. thanks alot.

My professor relates an MBA to the old saying, "I wouldn't want to be a member of any club that would have me as one," meaning that MBAs are a dime a dozen so, depending on what you want to do, it isn't worth having one unless you have a good one.

FYI, he has one from the University of Chicago so I would say he can back that up pretty well.
