Marijuana Deals

Throwaway account for obvious reasons.

Rising junior right now. Over the past summer I worked at a boutique investment bank, where I worked on a marijuana deal (legit company, not potheads). Would there be any negative stigma if I included that on my resume?

I'm aiming to work at a BB next summer.

You're right. It was incredibly interesting (obviously didn't expect this back in February). My only concern is that some of the older people at firms I hopefully interview might scoff at this (and obviously there's still that stoner connotation with marijuana, even though it doesn't apply to the client at all).

Dude this would be super interesting in an interview. And if you're in an interview with a 60 year old who you can tell isn't reacting well to the news and you feel like you need to distance yourself, just acknowledge that it's not an industry that you endorse, but at the end of the day money is money, a deal is a deal, and a client is a client. You wouldn't tell Phillip Morris to fuck off, and they have much worse social externalities than a weed comp.

But I think this would be a refreshing and interesting deal to talk about after doing hours of interviews and hearing the same thing all day.

Thanks for the response. Would you recommend putting the company as a marijuana company on my resume, or listing it as a CPG/pharmaceutical producer, etc.?

Just tell it like it is. Most will be interested an want to hear more, you would have to be a pretty stiff person to look down upon the marijuana industry so much that your candidacy is affected by it. Even then, its a sorting mechanism - you probably wouldn't fit in with that culture anyway and not get an offer / want to work for them.

Change your name on your resume to Walter White. Then people will take it seriously.

You know you've been working too hard when you stop dreaming about bottles of champagne and hordes of naked women, and start dreaming about conditional formatting and circular references.
