Target HIGH SCHOOLS for iBanking colleges
Hey guys. New monkey here so go easy on me. I'm a current 7th grader at a public, suburban middle school in Nc, who has always been interested in the banking field ever since we took a field trip there in 5th grade. I'm wondering what target high schools exist that have many grads go to target colleges and end up in IBanking. I have family in upstate New York, so if there's target high schools up there closer to "the street" I could probably live with them. I just want to have as many doors open as possible after high school to get into a college that could get me to the street. So, who knows a bit about target high schools that could help me out?
Is this for real?? Just do well in high school, get involved, and get a high SAT. You can get into a good college that way.
There is no such thing as a target HS
You probably should have asked this question in elementary school, going to be an uphill battle from here.....
Very funny but come on, seriously
Stop worrying about it. Just be a kid, have fun, and do well in school
If you don't get into a top 10 kindergarten you'll never make it to a prestigious elementary school and you'll have to start out in ops.
Can't afford to be no back office Barry
Screw that. Sorry kid if you didn't get put into accelerated kindergarten then your prospects for becoming an elite investment banking ubermensch are pretty terrible.
dude you are gonna have a heart attack before 30 for sure...
Banking will be dead by the time you're in the workforce anyhow. If i were you i'd learn to code...
lol what? How exactly do you expect banking to just "die"?
Did you at least go to a target kindergarten or were you at least in the top 5% of your graduating preschool class?
After reading this, I think I will just walk in to traffic
Top ten funniest posts I've ever read on here
Didn't intend this to be funny. Any serious feedback would be appreciated. "Non target" is never a word I wanna have to use, having already made it through half of a non target middle school
nontargetforlife
You have to use the term non target considering you are going to a non target middle school. Even if you get to a target high school and college, you will always have to show an embarrassing non target middle school on your resume and in conversations with anyone.
I was physically born in Harvard College (just to be in a target birthplace) and had my name changed to Ludovic Rothschild to improve my chances to get into the target pre-kindergarten program at Andover. My plan is to be #1 at everything at Andover and then do Harvard College -> Blackstone R&R -> KKR -> Harvard Business School -> founder of a tech company that will be valued at $1tn during its IPO (3 years after I graduate from HBS). Any thoughts on my plan?
Well in your plan you would need to go back in time. I'm just trying to plan for the near future that I can control. Be serious come on
You have already completed half of non-target middle school mind control. Might as well take a job a Piper Jaffray
Just do well in high school. Nobody cares which high school you attended as a 7th grader. It doesn't have to be close to Wall Street, in New York, etc. "Target" starts mattering at the college level.
LOL, your class took a field trip to a bank? Fucking scrubs.
This whole thread is peak WSO. Just shut it down now, nowhere to go but down.
Kid you're fucked. The fact you were at a non-target middle school means your done. I had kids in 6th grade cranking out LBOs on the bloomies before they had to participate in that stand up poetry bullshit. Have fun flipping burgers at McDonalds.
Is this a joke? You went to retail bank in NC and then you just knew it was Harvard business preparatory school or bust? In all seriousness it doesn't matter much at all what high school you go to if you just have a high gpa, sat, etc. You could always go to a honors type high school in your area that requires some time of previous academic merit to get in.
Is that the best one? Harvard prep? How hard is that go get into from a non target?
Pretty sure you have to at least be a CFA II candidate to get in.
IHOP, you are planning early, but I've had clients that attended the best boarding schools and private schools in the country to get into top undergrads. You do need to be interesting as well, so like some of the other readers indicate below, have fun and find activities outside of finance in which you are passionate: participate and lead. We can take this conversation off line. You said that you have family in upstate NY, but where do you currently live? Can your family afford to send you to a top private or boarding school https://k12.niche.com/rankings/private-high-schools/best-overall/? If not, this public school link takes you to top public schools http://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/national-rankings and this takes you to top public magnets http://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/national-rankings/mag…. However, many districts restrict admission from those outside the district. Admissions outsiders don't understand the value of relationships with the university (get the data of the colleges the three most recent graduating class attended). Your college advisors need strong relationships with your target schools. I also have a personal interest in international baccalaureate programs. The curriculum is more intensive than a public school and most of these programs offer students interesting opportunities to lead. I hope this help you. I know you are serious. I've have parents call me about their pre-schoolers. Natalie
Very informative! Thanks for the reply SB'd
http://www.businessinsider.com/most-elite-boarding-schools-in-the-us-20… close proxy. Not perfect. Can't go wrong with Andover though.
hahahahahhahahahaha... OMFG...... Best thread Ive EVER READ ... PERIOD.

LOL

Why?

In order to get into a top target for banking like UIUC, I recommend Peoria Central Public High School.
Funniest thread I have seen on WSO till this date. LOL.
Not sure if this is serious or not (I really hope it's not), but a "target" high school will do no more than get you into a good college. After that no one will care. That said, NCSSM is the best school in NC, I believe. If you want to stay in-state that is probably your best bet. Other than that, I'm sure boarding schools post where they send kids to every year.
I went to my neighborhood public high school, so I wouldn't call myself the most informed on this topic, though.
on a related note, who are some of the target families i can be born into or adopted by for ibanking?
Some of the comments in this thread remind me that the intelligence of the average person is shockingly low. I haven't been exposed to many 'average' people where they say more than 'hello' or 'what would you like to order' in decades (my short time in Congress being the big exception).
Listen here pipsqueak, you're already behind the 8-ball, which you should have already snorted by now. Also, side note, don't smoke pot in middle school, grow up and do cocaine like a real banker.
Listen, at this stage of the game, you're late. You're extinct, you're in back office ops at best, you're a nobody. People that want to be an investment banker are BORN as investment bankers. People like Jamie Dimon and Lloyd Blankfein want NOTHING to do with you. While you're out there, doing flash cards during fourth period at some prep school, Wang Chung is out there at some non-target building motherfucking algos and credit default swaps at recess.
You think you can just walk into some TARGET high school and leave your non-target elementary education past behind you?! Think again, Champ. Everyone knows everyone. You will get LAUGHED out of the room with that middle school name on your LinkedIn profile. Everyone here knows that you don't live, breathe, and bleed investment banking, you impostor. You think you can just get into some target high school, cheat off of your buddies on the SAT, and get into an Ivy, before walking into Goldman Sachs. GOLDMAN FUCKIN' SACHS?! No. Not a chance, zero, zip, nada.
Although I hate you and everything you represent, here are a few tips to make it in the big leagues:
That's just good stuff, Mr. Skilling.
LOL
You'll make plenty of friends on College Confidential. I suggest taking your talents to that website.
Did you ever consider law as a career? Your too late to start in banking bro. They're looking for EXTENSIVE experience...trust me. Your background check will include a DNA screening to see if BSD is tattooed onto the nucleic acid structure. Law school might be worth a shot...
As soon as I read the first two sentences of his paragraph I knew the comment section was going to be having fun with this one lmfao. Probably the funniest thread/comments I've ever read on here. Kid, get good grades in hs and have fun. Not a worry in the world playa. Oh, and also- follow Dickfulds advice, be sure to touch a few boobs and don't be afraid to whip it out. These simple principles will take you far. Good luck young grasshopper.
First, know what investment banking is. Second, know why you want to be in it. Definitely don't do it for the prestige, exit opps, money, and the shallow chicks that go out with you for your money.
Read "Monkey Business" and "Liar's Poker" first. Know what you are getting yourself into. At your age, I would just enjoy school, learn about yourself, and explore options. If you do well, you will end up in a good college, and the door to IB will still be wide open for you (not to mention kids don't want to go into banking nowadays, even Ivy Leaguers, http://dealbreaker.com/2015/07/20-year-old-hedge-fund-summer-intern-wou…) I just wouldn't suggest you mold yourself into something so early in your life.
You're already in the mindset of earning it. This is banking bro, fake it til you make it. Just don't make any decisions on a whim.
Just do the bare minimum to get into UNC, get waitlisted for admission at Kenan-Flagler. Have your father, yes we know who he is and how important he is, call up the director of admission and get you off the waitlist.
From there, life is easy, work a PWM internship the summer between your freshman and sophomore year at an extremely elite boutique like SunTrust; in the biz we call it RH. Lookup Robinson Humphrey while you're at it, important to know the elitist history of the institution for your interviews; it's never too early to start prepping. Then do a top-notch spring internship at a local investment bank like Chapel Hill Denham Investment Bank (http://www.chapelhilldenham.com/news/mid/466/newsid466/32/). You'll see in the article that they were named the best investment bank in Nigeria for 2011 by the Nigerian Investment Banking league, a truly tough and unbiased list to crack. Everything is going to Africa, China is fully developed, as exhibited by their slowing and manufactured growth rate, the future is in Nigeria! Trust me, I know a prince there who still has my long-lost grandfathers money; their such nice people, I never even knew he existed until they contacted me and I was lucky to find it in my spam folder. Afterwards, pick up an extremely lucrative internship in Wells Fargo's TMT group, which has advised multi-million dollar companies like Rosetta Stone.
Sit next to the smart kids in finance classes, don't study. Pickup a fair, but not excessive bourbon and cigar obsession (frat). Realize that prosecco and champagne are for the faint at heart and realize that cava is actually where it's at. Life's about being ahead of the game kid, and as you've probably read on BusinessInsider recently, the world will experience a shortage of prosecco and champagne in the early to mid 2020s, so you're timing is impeccable.
Leverage you're extensive experience to gain a full-time gig with BAML's investment banking practice in Charlotte (they have a hard-on for UNC kids). After your first year, they'll probably shut down the Charlotte office and ask you to move to NYC (epic). Take the offer and spend your second year looking for lateral opps. It'll be tough, but eventually you'll land the coveted cap markets gig at Brown Brothers and Harriman; trust me it's worth it to start all over as a first year. After three years, you can probably start interviewing for PE gigs.
Once there, shoot me an email, I can put you in contact with some recruiters.
Finally, google 'satire'.
Thanks for the hilarious post - a satire nicely done. But then again on a second thought, I realize this could actually be a real question in the next five years or so...
a
it's taking so much strength to not slay right now, but you're 12 years old, c'mon WSO.
this entire question is pointless if your parents don't give you an option of where to go. if they do and you're in NC, you may want to stay closer to home and go to a boarding school like woodberry or episcopal (both in VA). otherwise, plenty of quality private schools in NC. Assuming you're in one of the 2 big areas there (charlotte & raleigh), there's something for you there.
back to everyone else's point, get good grades, make friends, stay out of trouble (legal trouble, don't be a stiff), and have fun.
It's amazing just how moronic some people (ie: you) on this forum can be.
If you can get into a top boarding school ie. Exeter/Andover/Hotchkiss/Deerfield/Choate. Go there, crush it and get into the best college you can. It's probably as close to a target school for HS as you can get. Going to a public school and crushing it might be easier though because at prep school you're a little fish in a tank of sharks. A big plus of those schools is the alumni network and amount of MDs on the street who will support you. Unfortunately that comes at a sticker price of 50k+/year in tuition, so unless you are a gifted athlete it might be out of reach.
I graduated from one of them and around 20% of my graduating class went into IB/PE/S&T after college. Good luck and seriously relax!
Thank you for the serious feedback, and congrats on graduating from a target hs. Hopefully I'll be able to break into one coming from a non target JH (junior high)
This cannot be real. In any case, the responses have been gold.
WILL SOMEONE POST THE GODDAMN RANKINGS FOR THIS KID?!?!?
Strawberry High School, Abraham Lincoln High School, DeWitt Clinton High School to name a few. These schools are feeders into the top colleges. Focus your efforts on getting into these my friend. Your welcome.
You're going to have to start networking at recess. Make friends with the nurse and start cold calling out of the office as much as possible. It's dog eat dog out there and I heard Jonathan from room 214 has some of the most pristine Pivot Tables the likes of Microsoft have ever seen. So get on it.
Just took my first monkey shit and flung it
Anyway I was in boarding school for 6 years in my home country (post primary sch, pre uni), MDs at IBs i met all seem to be interested in my experience in boarding school. I attended a semi target uni for undergrad and am going to attend a target school for postgrad.
Thanks for a much needed laugh today - much appreciated.
hahahaha
Shouldn't you be in recess?
Recess ended in 5th grade. When else do u think I could find time to do that. And are those tables needed for target hs? I don't know any of this stuff. Non target JH is killing me. This thread actually has me considering transferring to a target JH to help with the target HS. Thoughts?
If you don't know the answer to that question then you might as well give up now, you're not getting into ibanking. Sorry not sorry.
Side Note: I don't think I've laughed this hard at a thread since the crips vs bloods a few years ago.
Hahaha, thank god for the interwebz
Don't quite get it but do you know anything about the rankings? For either JH or HS
there's no such thing as a "target" junior high or a "target" high school. you gotta relax or the real world is going to be real tough for you
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFG~!!!!!! DIENG... Funniest Thread Ive EVER Read
That wasn't necessary
Bump
I have two for you.
Harper High School- Located in Chicago and usually feeds directly into Northwestern and UChicago.
DeWitt Clinton High School- Located in the Bronx. Kids from here usually get to skip college all together and have an 85% placement rate into Goldman Sachs' and JP Morgan's youth analyst program.
Basically both of these schools will train you in the art of Excel cranking before the time your 15. On your 16th birthday you won't be getting drunk or laid, you'll be practicing how to use PowerPivot and Vlookup while memorizing every single Excel shortcut known to man. (hint- most important shortcut is alt+qq)
hell is the first target HS.
Target High Schools? (Originally Posted: 02/18/2011)
Hey guys,
I am a junior high student looking to get into GS TMT and I would like to know which high schools will give me the best leg up:
Choate Andover Pingry Winchester Le Rosey Brillemont
Can you rank these for me?
good question, up and comer! these is such an underappreciated topic and MUST be considered if you ever want to get to GS TMT. Choate and Pingry are great options, but you should think about Groton as well. Good luck though, because if you don't get into one of these you will likely never ever work at GS TMT!
Le Rosey for unbeatable global opportunities. Befriend as many sheikhs as possible
have some class dude Exeter or bust
anyone High school in Compton, La so you can tell people your STRAIGHT OUT OF COMPTON don't mess with me. This would also require you to move there.

Ha, this is great.
Hotchkiss: Harold Stanley of Morgan Stanley, Watsons of IBM, Fred frank of Lehman, John Thornton of Goldman, Henry Ford II of Ford, John Mars of Mars and Raymond McGuire of citi came out of there.
or Deerfield. Weinberg of Goldman, Bewkes of Time Warner, and it is the personal school of the Rockefellers, now that is balling.
But if you are going for VC firms Cate and Thatcher are close to silicon valley and will serve you well it like Standford.
For TMT, Exeter is also pretty strong with Zuckerberg and all. Andover has Hughes. But A/E tends to be stronger on the innovation side, not monkey work. So you won't find as many in banking.
The fact that you know this much about high schools is just creepy.
I hope this question is a joke...
Nope, completely serious... ^ Really?
bro you need to work on your sarcasm meter, of course no one takes this seriously.
um, you could go to a great high school but if you don't get into a decent college, that will be an issue.
You are a junior high student looking to get into GS?? What a joke! Sorry to say this, but that ship may have already sailed for you, unless you attended one of the following:
http://www.walletpop.com/photos/most-expensive-preschools/
Better yet, were you born in one of these?
http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/rankings
Personally I'm sick of crapholes like Kaiser cranking out millions of retard-babies every year. These morons will never work at GS.
i know this is a joke, but imagine if 7th/8th graders start coming on here to ask about "target high schools" haha
In all honesty, I went to one of the boarding schools listed above, and during my time at gs I remember meeting a good handful of choate/deerfield/hotchkiss people. I met a few Groton/SPS/Lawrenceville. However Exeter/Andover by far had the most (at least for people under the age of 30).
A/E are also double the size of almost all the schools on there, save Choate. Not that any of this shit matters. Lol, it is high school.
I would say either Eton or Westminster - much classier or posher than the American schools...
You're a little late to the game - if you didn't start at Collegiate or Trinity in kindergarten you have a zero percent chance at GS/MS.
