Want to Land More Interviews? Make the Right First Impression...First You Have to
This starts with a polished resume and cover letter. Finance positions are some of the most sought after jobs in the world. You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it.
Not only does it promise huge salaries and bonuses, but it's also the key stepping stone to anywhere you want to go in your career...
But getting in the door is much harder than you think...
... because Wall Street guards its secrets like the Federal Reserve guards its gold.
Getting an elite job in finance is not about acquiring the skills to DO the job... It's about acquiring the skills to GET the job.
And these are NOT the same thing.
Because what most Wall Streeters will never tell you is that they spend less than 30 seconds on each resume when it comes to deciding who to interview...
- A pretty format alone won't cut it...
- A high GPA isn't enough...
- Great connections won't get you the job you want...
- And even those with highly coveted internships don't make the cut...
Your interviewer's job isn't to find the best candidates... It's to weed out the worst - FAST. They'll look for any reason to throw your resume in the trash pile simply because there are thousands of resumes for every one job opening.
- They'll evaluate your formatting...
- Scan your background to see if you have the right pedigree...
- See if you are using the right lingo and have the right skillset...
- And they'll use any minor reason at all to reject you and move onto the next resume...
Why wouldn't they take more time?:
- The professionals are often exhausted from these high stress jobs...
- They think, "why not go with the safer bet?"...
- They think how can I get through these 200 resumes in front of me to get home early? ...
Quite simply, the resume judgement process at these firms is often unstructured and rushed that could leave your resume unfairly in the trash bin, even with ONE minor mistake.
The Only Way to Pass This Stage is to Get Help from from The Exact People Who Make These Decisions.
The best way to learn anything is to simply get inside knowledge straight from the source.
Only then will you know all of the little tricks, secrets and shortcuts to landing more interviews and beating your competition: the tens of thousands of other finance "rock stars" who are competing for your job.
And once you have your polished resume, what seemed like a gauntlet will be a walk in the park.
Where others are confused why they keep getting denied, you'll be calm, cool and collected landing more interviews.
When others are cramming at the last minute, your application will be submitted with total confidence, knowing you are giving yourself the best possible shot.
And when others are working in the back office at a community bank, you'll be climbing the ladder in an elite career.
But first, a word of warning...
Less Than 3% Get a Job in These Top Industries...
... Only Those with an EDGE Get In.
That's right. Out of every 1,000 applicants, less than 30 will get the job. The other 97% will wash out and never be heard from again.
That's 2x lower than the acceptance rate at Harvard. You do the math.
Think it can't be you? Think again. Wall Street has access to thousands of rocket scientists, technical geniuses and finance "rock stars", all just like you... all beating down their door.
Most never get in.
Instead they end up left out in the cold, wandering the finance wilderness... Working in a back office...
Selling home loans at a community bank... Crunching numbers in a mindless gig...
And yes, living with their parents.
I've seen it more times than I can count.
And it's all because they're unprepared.
Most never even land an interview because their resume is not up to the elite standards of their competition.
- Many relied on friends in the industry to review their resume but forgot that many of these people don't have the time to go line-by-line, word-by-word...
- Even worse, others trusted career counselors that have no industry experience with their future and ended up with a mediocre final product, thinking it was competitive...
- Some candidates tried to go it alone with a good template they found online, but missed some critical nuances that would have made a difference...
- Some even had 4.0's from the most prestigious target schools in the country but found themselves forever looking in from the outside.
One of my best friends was a finance savant, with a 3.9 from a target school. But he only landed a few interviews, and now he sells mortgages at a local bank. He'll never work in high finance, and he'll live with the pain of regret for the rest of his life, wondering what if...
The Bottom Line is This:
To Get the Job, You Must Ace Step 1...
... Getting Your Resume 100% Ready.
The Wall Street Oasis Resume Review Service
How to Land More Interviews for theMost Prestigious Jobs in Finance...
Here's Just Some of What You Can Expect:
Our customers have landed positions at the most elite finance firms, including:
don't let one typo cost you $150,000 ...get the service that will make sure your resume lands interviews.
The WSO Resume Review service has been modified and tweaked for over a decade. While other resume services claim to have the best expertise on staff, the truth is many are former career counselors and/or worked in HR -- probably the last person you want reviewing your most critical recruiting documents. Or worse, they're run by one guy or gal who's been out of the business for years…
Hardly what we'd call "expertise"...
And there's an even BIGGER problem with these services:
These aren't the people screening your resumes at elite firms, THIS year.
Elite finance industries are constantly changing. What worked even last year to land interviews may no longer be effective. You can't expect some boutique resume review shop with a handful of reviewers to place you with someone that truly knows what needs to be on your resume.
That's why the WSO Resume Review Service has hand-picked the best professionals from thousands of currently practicing finance professionals… people who live and breathe their industry - day in and day out… who can tell you what's changing firsthand…who LOVE giving back and will keep you up-to-date on everything you need to polish your resume and land more interviews.
And what you really need is this:
How do I know this?
Because I've been down this path before...
My name is Patrick Curtis, and I'm the founder of Wall Street Oasis. Not that long ago, I was in your position. I had a stellar GPA from a prestigious school, was a top athlete and held strong leadership positions. In short, I was confident, flying high and ready to ace my interviews…
Except I didn't.
After submitting my resume to all 15 open investment banking positions on campus, I found out the harsh truth… I wasn't that impressive and my resume was not ready. I only landed 3 first round interviews
That's a low hit rate for on campus recruiting, especially with my GPA and extracurricular leadership.
I knew I was screwed… and I had missed my biggest opportunity. I managed to get to a few final rounds, but those few opportunities meant nothing because I couldn't land the offer.
This same scenario repeated again and again… And this doesn't include the hundreds of times my resume was ignored, I was blown off or outright rejected.
While my friends were landing great banking jobs with huge salaries, I was one step away from the ultimate indignity: selling mortgages at a community bank and moving back in with my parents.
(In fact, one of my friends graduated from the top his class at Georgetown, but failed the recruiting process and ended up selling Carnival Cruise packages to Midwestern tourists. I'm serious.)
After months of failure, I finally decided to suck it up and take a hard look in the mirror. I rarely got interviews from networking emails or resume submissions. I realized my resume wasn't getting the job done.
And then I got a mentor… An alum to take me under his wing and spend 3 hours with me, reviewing my resume in detail, word by word.
Finally, after revamping everything on my resume (format, bullets, phrasing, diction, grammar, emphasis), I started landing more interviews.
The work paid off. I landed just 1 of 12 coveted spots at Rothschild's New York office in investment banking.
After 2 years, I moved into private equity, doubled my salary and was finally living the high life.
This service is the result of that experience. With the help of our 450,000 members and over a decade of experience reviewing over 2,000 resumes, we've created the only resume review service where you can get an expert in your target industry to help you one-on-one (at a fraction of what the other companies charge). I know firsthand how hard it is to break into these careers… and I also know what happens if you miss your window.
And with the help of our clients and elite resume team- and of the thousands of industry veterans, analysts and interviewers who have contributed to help refine this service - it's my hope that you can avoid the pitfalls I experienced, land the job you want and catapult yourself to the lucrative career that's waiting for you.
here's what our customers are saying:
Don't take our word for it
Here are just a few of the 2,000 candidates who have used the WSO service...
"I wanted to be prepared for the upcoming recruiting season for Summer Internships so I decided to have my CV reviewed by a WSO reviewer (he was working at a BB before jumping to the Buy-side).
WSO did not only reformat my existing CV but also re-wrote each bullet from scratch - my reviewer was able to concisely write about my experiences in very few but punchy bullets which definitely differentiates my CV from all the generic CV's out there! Furthermore he was also willing to share his personal insight from an interviewer perspective when selecting from a high number of CV's during the application process.
In the meantime I received an offer from two bulge bracket investment banks who explicitly mentioned the quality of my CV. I can highly recommend a CV editing session with WSO. It was absolutely worth the initial investment and should be part of everyone's preparation who is trying to break into the extremely competitive investment banking industry."
Goal: Investment Banking - Result: Internship @ Goldman Sachs in London
"...'Completely thorough' is the phrase that comes to mind when I think about my experiences working with WSO, ... My reviewers knowledge of private equity and investment banking as well as being thorough and complete by asking me in-depth questions made a dramatic difference in the quality of my resume. She has also suggested various other things that I did not take into consideration such as adding an "interest" column. I would strongly recommend WSO. They did a phenomenal job with mine!"
Goal: VC, Consulting or PE - Result: Management Consulting Analyst in Toronto
"I had edited my resume many times before I used WSO's service. However, WSO Resume Review indeed polished my resume, making it more succinct and relevant, and also accentuated my achievements. Now I'm more confident about my job application and clearer about what appeals to the recruiters. I highly recommend WSO's resume critique service to students, especially international students like me."
Jon G. - Cornell University
Goal: Consulting/Investment Banking - Result: Business Analyst @ PE Consulting Firm, now Manager @ F500 in Corp. Dev. in Washington D.C.
"I've applied to this part-time investment banking internship three times in the past and had never heard back. My recent application received a reply, phone interview, office interview, and offer. Thanks for the help!"
Goal: Investment Banking - Result: Analyst @ Investment Banking in Philadelphia
"Between your review and the end of October I was invited to 30+ interviews for almost all the IB and Financial boutiques. I received 1 offer in Milan for a 6 months internship in M&A at BNP Paribas and I am currently going through it; and 1 offer for a summer internship in London with Barclays, and I will move there next summer (I am so excited about that!).
I just want to thank you once more as your help was really important and probably without it my situation would have been different at the moment! Thank you!"
Goal: Investment Banking - Result: Internship @ Barclays in London
"Wall Street Oasis did a great job and I got over 90% acceptance rate for interviews!"
Goal: Investment Banking - Result: IB Analyst @ Bank of America in New York
"The resume service offered by WSO went way beyond my expectation. The reviewer not only got back to me in a timely fashion but was also extremely helpful when it came to making the resume look "banker-ish". Even though I'm a sophomore, I've gotten the "wow" response from many alums who offered to review my resume. Couldn't have done it without WSO!"
Goal: Private Equity Megafund Result: Senior Associate @ PE Megafund in New York

Consider this your first investmentin a long career...
After all, you've likely already spent tens of thousands of dollars on college (and perhaps tens of thousands more on an MBA)... When you land your coveted finance job,
you'll be making well over $100,000...

And that's just the beginning of a long and very LUCRATIVE career that could easily net you millions.
We could easily charge over $1,000 and your ROI would still be huge…

All while watching your friends and classmates ride the elevators to the penthouses of investment banking, private equity and hedge funds…
The WSO Resume Review Service gives you everything you need to land more interviews, the first step toward landing the prestigious Wall Street job you've always wanted… quickly and easily.
But we're not going to charge you over $1,000...
We won't even ask for half of that..
Frequently Asked Questions
After checking out, you will immediately be sent a detailed questionnaire. Once you fill out and send that questionnaire to [email protected] along with a Word version of your resume, we will match you up within 24 hours to your expert resume reviewer based on your target industry and position. Your reviewer will introduce him/herself and then proceed to review your current resume and questionnaire.
Over the following days, you should expect a detailed list of follow up questions. This is to ensure that your reviewer is putting you in the best possible light for your target industry. After several iterations with you, the reviewer will provide you with a first draft along with a list of changes and reasons for the change. Usually clients are very happy with this initial draft, but we are always willing to work with you to refine the resume even further and answer any follow up questions you may have for up to 2 weeks.
We have an incredible team of dedicated reviewers across top finance firms all around the world. Our #1 goal is to make sure you are placed in the hands of the most competent and detail oriented professional in your specific target industry. This coupled with our strict process ensures a smooth and thorough experience. Why do we use actual professionals? The answer is simple: they are the ones ACTUALLY SCREENING RESUMES for their own firms! They know what it takes to make it out of the trash pile and into the interview pile. On top of this, since we have been doing resume reviews for over a decade across THOUSANDS of clients, we are able to immediately identify a top reviewer and feed them more clients to ensure happy customers like you (due to our strict screening process).
Every single review is also monitored by our CEO to ensure we are exceeding expectations.
Our team includes investment bankers at all the top bulge brackets and elite boutique banks as well as private equity, hedge fund and VC professionals at the most prestigious funds. We also have reviewers at the top management consulting firms in the world, elite prop trading firms, top corporate finance roles as well as other related finance careers.
If this is your attitude then you should just give up now. Similarly, if you think a polished resume will land you the job, please don't bother to hire us. A professionally reviewed resume is just the initial step in a rigorous and competitive process to landing a great job. You are going up against the best and the brightest. Once you are armed with a great resume, you can't just sit back and do online submissions hoping to get picked out of the thousands of other applicants in your shoes. Response rates for online resume submissions for the top candidates with polished resumes are less than 10%. For non-target students and/or applicants with low GPAs, this can plummet all the way down to 1-3%. That is some ugly math.
In other words, even with a new resume, you will need to network. A LOT. The lower your GPA and the more unknown your school is, the harder you'll have to work to land those coveted interview spots. If this doesn't deter you and you are ready to put in that work, we would be honored to help you make that first step in the right direction with a resume that will impress and open doors. If we can improve your response rate from 1% to 5%, for example, that doesn't sound like a lot, but it's a dramatic 500% increase. Instead of hearing back from 1 out of every 100 applications (depressing), you would be hearing back from 1 out of every 20. If you couple this with aggressive networking, you will be well on your way to landing interviews and securing an offer.
This is a personal question and the answer is naturally subjective. If you are serious about landing a job in investment banking, private equity, hedge funds, trading, Asset Management, management consulting or any other competitive industry, it's more than likely that the answer to that question is a resounding "YES".
Career services advisers at your school are not screening resumes for interviews...neither are your classmates. If you do happen to have a friend in the industry, are they going to take the hours necessary to produce a great finished product? Are they willing to go line by line to reword and reformat your resume? Odds are that their time is limited outside the office and if they do give you a review, it won't be nearly as thorough an experience as our expert reviewers will give you. If you look at the competitive nature of recruiting nowadays, why would leave the quality of such an important document up to chance when many of these jobs pay well over $100,000?
Your Choice is Simple.
If you're reading this, you're here for a reason: because you want to be one of the very few who gets an an elite job… and because you need help doing it.
Your opportunity really is limited… you have one good shot. If you don't land these jobs early in your career, your chances of breaking into the industry are slim to none, because the firms will know you're damaged goods. Don't believe me? Talk to my friend who was selling Carnival Cruise packages after he failed his recruiting season.
Because the hard truth is that Wall Street is literally flooded with millions of people just like you and me: college hot shots, finance wizards, math geniuses and interns with actual deal experience… and most of them still end up on the outside looking in.
These firms have the pick of the litter, and only those who are superbly prepared, who make a great first impression and who understand the subtle nuances of the application will get a shot at interviewing.
Do that, and you'll have a great shot at gaining entrance to a world few people will ever glimpse.
What do you want to be doing? Living in a penthouse, working on multibillion dollar deals and climbing the elite ladders of finance?
Or living with your parents, selling mortgages in the suburbs and watching your friends having the lucrative career that should have been yours.

"I reached out to the WSO Finance Resume Review team back in December as I was preparing to speak with headhunters for lateral/PE recruiting. Since I knew the recruiting process would be extremely competitive (and the opportunities would be few and far between), I wanted to refine my resume as much as possible so that it would stick out. I did not have significant work experience (only 5-6 months into my first year), so I was concerned about content, but WSO did an excellent job of working with what I had to create a great final product.
Although the reviewer helped me put together a good resume, what he taught me was invaluable. Since he came from a banking background (and now is in PE), he knew what banks and PE shops looked for in a resume. Through continuous dialogue over the course of a week, I picked up on what he thought added value to the finance resume and how to word them, and I've used that knowledge to make updates to my resume as I've gained more valuable experience. With an improved resume, I had interviews with several top PE and HF shops, a top boutique bank, and a top bulge bracket, and I ended up signing with the top BB in one of its best groups.
In addition to the resume review, WSO was very helpful in answering any questions I had about my resume and the lateral/PE recruiting process, even four months after I had used the resume review service. That, along with the knowledge I gained in how to build a great resume, has made the WSO finance resume review service worth 100x more than its price. Highly recommended!"
Goal: Investment Banking - Result: Associate @ Middle-Market PE Firm in New York
"My experience with the WSO resume review was excellent. They were very responsive and knowledgeable. My resume improved immensely and I feel much more confident applying for jobs. I will definitely be recommending WSO to friends and colleagues. Thanks."
Goal: Asset Management - Result: Portfolio Manager @ Asset Management Firm in Chicago
"I really liked the fact that my reviewer helped articulate my experiences in a rhetoric that was very succinct and organized. Since the review, I have received positive feedback from recruiters/peers who have looked at resume. Even better, I have already landed 3 interviews (2 with very reputable, well capitalized REPE shops). I would absolutely recommend this service. Having a well thought out/ formatted resume is the first line of defense in any job application process and the whole process helped allow me to focus more time on networking/ interview preparation!"
Goal: Real Estate Private Equity - Result: Associate @ Real Estate PE fund in Los Angeles
"Would you recommend the WSO Resume Review Service and if so, why?] Yes, of course. I have used it twice already and have received great feedback. In fact, the resume review played a main part in obtaining my current job.
[What specific results have you obtained by using this WSO Resume Review service?] I received very positive comments from current private equity associates. Also, the results were great. I landed offers from both BBs and boutiques. Obviously I accepted the offer from my top choice."
Goal: Management Consulting or Investment Banking - Result: Analyst @ Elite IB Boutique in San Francisco
"The WSO resume reviewer helped to really polish it into a 1st class resume. He helped to structure my weaknesses in such a way as to mitigate their emphasis and highlight my strong points and I am now much more confident about sending it out. Aside from the quality of the work, the reviewer was extremely prompt. Considering the fact there is no face to face contact ever with WSO and there being a lingering feeling when purchasing services online from someone with whom I will have no contact, this really helped make me comfortable with the individual and the organization with which I was putting my trust in. My resume reviewer was extremely helpful.
[Would you recommend the WSO Resume Review Service and if so, why?] I would indeed recommend the service. I particularly liked the fact that I was working with people within my industry as opposed to a generic resume writer. It was clear that my reviewer knew what recruiters were going to be looking for and that is insight I likely would not get from a generic resume writer.
[What hesitations did you have before signing up?] As fore mentioned, I am always apprehensive about purchasing services online. You never really know the quality of the service you are going to get and if in the event the service is sub-par, I do not have the ability to go down to a physical brick and mortar location and raise hell. Again, the reviewer was very good at conveying the utmost professionalism and competence from day 1."
Goal: Trading - Result: FX Trader in Los Angeles
"My reviewer was absolutely amazing in helping me with my CV. I can honestly say that his help was far above my expectations. Not only did my CV become more to the point and get a much savvier look, he actually tailored it for the specific region and type of companies I was applying to.
Last but definitely not least, he is a really nice, helpful and sincere guy. I kept bugging him for applying changes even after I had already told him that I approved what he did the first time. He always incorporated my requests and was very quick with replying to my questions. WSO should charge much more for this... well, at least with reviewers like this on the team. This guy is superhuman, no kidding."
Goal: Corporate Finance - Result: Portfolio Manager @ Banking Firm in Netherlands
"Great work from you. I really like the format and the way you condensed it. In fact, I just received an interview from Carlyle yesterday with the new CV. Thank you."
Goal: Investment Banking - Result: Analyst @ Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong
"Just wanted to thank you for the review that you did of my CV and Cover Letter back in July. I was a bit in doubt of the cover letter, but honestly it was absolutely on point. It secured me loads of interviews followed by 7 AC's. At the end I have chosen to join [BB Bank - redacted for anonymity] as a SA within markets next summer. Unbelievable to think how much your review did.
I did not even get any interviews when I applied for Spring with my old CV/Cover Letter - yet I could almost choose whichever BB I wanted to go for after your help. I could keep on going, but the key takeaway is that I am really grateful."
Goal: Sales and Trading - Result: Summer Internship @ BB Bank in Europe
"Thanks again for the amazing services offered by WSO. Your platform is outstanding, you guys are the best at what you do! I'm very happy with my new cover letter and resume and am convinced that I'll be finally able to get my summer internship now that I've placed all the right cards in my hand."
Goal: Investment Banking - Result: Internship @ Investment Banking in Canada
"My reviewer did an excellent job with helping me construct a more banking-oriented resume. Shortly after submitting my questionnaire and existing resume he contacted me and began the process. He asked several thoughtful follow-up questions to help convey my experience in the best way possible, which is not an easy task given that I'm in a very qualitative, niche role. Within days I had a very polished and cleanly-formatted copy and the reviewer made sure I was completely satisfied with it and provided me with more general guidance on how to present it in interviews; he was always happy to answer whatever follow-up questions I had. I would highly recommend this service to others."
Goal: Investment Banking - Result: Analyst @ Capital Advisors in Philadelphia
