America's Soul Is Lost

1. Collapse is now inevitable.

So begins the list of 20 reasons why America has lost her soul and the ultimate demise of our economic system is all but a fait accompli, according to Marc Faber.

Disagree?

But for Wall Street and American capitalism, use your gut. You know something's very wrong: A year ago, too-greedy-to-fail banks were insolvent, in a near-death experience. Now, magically, they're back to business as usual, arrogant, pocketing outrageous bonuses while Main Street sacrifices, and unemployment and foreclosures continue rising as tight credit, inflation and skyrocketing federal debt are killing taxpayers.

Whether or not you subscribe to Marc Faber's Doom and Gloom projections, the article is an interesting read. With literally eons of empirical evidence about why societies ultimately fail, it isn't too difficult to draw parallels to some high-profile collapses in the past.

Quoting 18th century Scottish historian Alexander Fraser Tytler: "The average life span of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years" progressing from "bondage to spiritual faith ... to great courage ... to liberty ... to abundance ... to selfishness ... to complacency ... to apathy ... to dependence and ... back into bondage!"

We've had a pretty good run for 233 years. Is it coming to an end? According to Paul Farrell at MarketWatch:

Faber is uncertain about timing, we are not. There is a high probability of a crisis and collapse by 2012. The "Great Depression 2" is dead ahead. Unfortunately, there's absolutely nothing you can do to hide from this unfolding reality or prevent the rush of the historical imperative.

Just in case he's right, you might want to check out this article on how to stash gold bullion.

Have a great week!

I agree with a lot of what is said. What I don't agree with is the crack pot view that regulation on how much money people can make is the answer. Check out this chart of Federal pay and benefits vs. the private sector.

http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2009/08/24/federal-pay-continues-rapid-a…

maybe the part about going back to bondage is right... we'll vote all the power in the world to the government who will continue to pay themselves better than the rest of the country

Yes America is f'ed but not for the reasons that old guy who unknowingly quoted Marx said ... historical imperative my ass ....

Americans were dumb enough to elect BHO and John McCain. That's not something you recover from. As Jefferson said ...

I don't think so.

America will become poorer because its people are dumb and loaded with debt, right. The dollar is losing its glamour appeal as "world currency". Its workers are not that efficient, they just log long hours. Infrastructure is outdated. Commercial banking system possibly the worst in the developed world. Etc. So, yes, Americans will become relatively poorer. So what? The bears are as dumb as the bulls and no one can predict the next "V" of the "W". Do they put their money where their mouth is?

And the lifespan of civilization is 200 years? What, you're a fucking zoologist with a minor in history? Give me a break.

The fact of the matter remains that when the U.S. economy sneezes and sniffles the global economy catches the full blown Bubonic Plague.

If anything, being forced to step back and look in the mirror is something that is greatly beneficial for us.

As for the article, smacks of neo-communist fear mongering and I don't buy 95% of the OPINIONS which the author attempts to present as FACTS.

Once the White Liberal Guilt effect wears off (thankfully, already has with some) we will realize we chose a socialist to lead us at a time when capitalism struggled.

Luckily, as a country we have a history of working harder when the chips are down and I do not think this situation is any different.

of why private schools are not just superior but a necessity if we plan on preserving the Union.

American egotistically fathom a world where their country is impervious to the ills of reality.

DOn't be fooled, it's the dollar keeping us united, not a healthy dose of stars with a side slab of stripes.

The manipulative lens through which the liberal education system paints Joseph McCarthy ( a patriot and hero ) is the SAME exact tactic once used by the Cominterns and Informbiros of the Eastern Block to preach to us "the evils of capitalism".

What shocks the most is that perhaps the three greatest Americans of the 20th century (in reference to the quality of life we enjoy today) John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie and Senator McCarthy are all portrayed in the American public school system as crooks, villains and mad men.

Somewhere Lenin is smiling.
