Even da Vinci Had to Interview
mod (Andy) note: "Blast from the past - Best of Eddie" - This one is originally from February 2010. If there's an old post from Eddie you'd like to see up again shoot me a message.
I thought you guys might appreciate this. I came across this cover letter written by Leonardo da Vinci to a potential employer, the Duke of Milan. It should make you feel better that even one of the greatest minds in human history had to deal with HR.
Unlike some modern-day imitators (ahem, Jeremy King, jeffrey chiang...), da Vinci actually brought the wood. And Leonardo was something of a badass, too. I don't know why I was surprised when I read it, but it turns out he was extremely well-versed in siege technology.
Where the operation of bombardment might fail, I would contrive catapults, mangonels, trabocchi, and other machines of marvelous efficacy and not in common use. And in short, according to the variety of cases, I can contrive various and endless means of offense and defense.
For some reason it cracks me up that Leonardo da Vinci had to sing for his supper. And I love how he wrote, "Oh, and I'm a pretty decent painter, too" almost as a post-script.
Just goes to show you, boys and girls, even the best have to try out once in a while.
That's great. I think everyone on here can appreciate that.
Second that. It is a great read and I'm also surprised that his "alledged" skills in painting and art as we know them today are only coming at the end of the cover letter.
Ha, what a loser...he didn't work at a BB.
Yeah but can he tell me the three ways to value a company?
sun life, eh? funny commercials, i'll grant you that, but i fail to see the connection to the big L to the DV... if only i had some credits... stoopid spammer.
Can anyone help me bankify this? I've been in need of a good cover letter to get me into a BB
I'm opening my next cover letter with "Most Illustrious Lord" Good find.
LOL. That would definitely be an eye grabber.
Wait...did even Da Vinci inflate things a little of his resume...
He claims he knows how to tunnel under a river...
he THOUGHT he knows how to tunnel under a river. he also thought he could make a flying helicopter-like machine. let's be honest, this guy's imagination got the better of him. wonderful and very nearly realistic imagination, but not quite.
it was a two pager, instant ding
