Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

As WSO’s resident chauvinist I feel it is my duty to comment on the Xenia Tchoumitcheva story. For those of you guys living under a rock or already having sacrificed your libido for the betterment of your MD’s schedule, she’s this girl.

A 2006 Miss Switzerland runner up, econ grad, speaker of five languages, former Audi and Burger King spokes model and newest addition to JP Morgan’s SA roster. As evidence on this site alone would indicate… every monkey’s wet dream.

But I am completely interested in something else. Namely, this girl’s pockets are already finely lined. Anyone whose worked in a department store or strolled a luxury girlfriend knows that the exit opps from modeling for good looking (not to mention intelligent) young women are plentiful and highly profitable.

Though it may come as a shock to some of you guys and even an offence, banking is a major step down for this young lady. The amount of time she will have to sink in to get to the mid six figures in finance, will be a ridiculous opportunity cost for her. Think of being offered a Managing Director position and then passing on it to go to B-school… for five years. That is essentially what Ms. Tchoumitcheva is doing.

This leads me to one of two conclusions:

1)She is certifiably bat shit crazy (considering my experience with Slavic women, this is by no means an exaggeration or a stereotype) and will be taking a five iron to the face of some gawking monkey by mid-July.

Or

2)She actually thinks this will be fun and is getting into it because she likes finance!

I am actually for once inclined to believe that #2 is the reason. Being that I do feel she’s leaving a ton of money on the table I can’t really see a bigger, better motivation. All the trophy husband and financial maximization barbs are unwarranted here. The girl can make more money canoodling on/off/around the runway circuit in the next decade than she could in a quarter century on Wall Street.

Does that mean we have actually found someone who is really, truly and honestly looking to get into finance for the fun of it? Dare I say, I am inclined to believe that is the case.

What do you guys think? Is it actually possible that someone (who is ironically a beautiful woman) actually wants to be involved in cubicle trench warfare with ubber nerds who confuse Bloomberg Terminals for personal battle stations?

Is there going to be a new employment wave on Wall Street? Will the final evolution of the pit be to something resembling the perfume counter at Macy’s? Will models actually remove themselves from the and bottles equation and take over The Street?

p.s. for those of you missing your weekly NSFW fix, enjoy and keep those screens to yourselves.

She has just got the most ridiculous amount of publicity. Guys all over finance are drooling over her picture, hoping they do business with JPM sales.

And as a result she has just created the most incredible online dating profile! Attracting predominately rich rich men, of whom she has the pick of them all, can take the cream of the crop, the BSDs (well she would want that now wouldn't she)

Well played woman, well played.

anyone who tries to argue she got hired only cuz of her looks doesnt understand that she will probably bring more sales commission than all the other analysts combined.

Wait don't sales happen over the phone...in that case, how can looks matter that much?

Do what you want not what you can!

Those exit opps aren't really appealing if you have a brain and want to support yourself. Yes she could hook up with BSD´s and count on them for her well-being but she would be dependent on them. Also most of those guys are quick to trade in for younger models ten years down the road. Second - the exit opps for models are actress, tv personalities, media work etc etc. Not exactly something you can bank on. For every role there are thousands of women that would gladly do it for free and on their knees just for a chance in the spotlight. Third she is smart and realizes that if she puts her time in "serious business" she will be taken seriously. Street cred. She can leverage this to build her own business easily AND be taken seriously.

Also - making money as a model is very hard. Agencies fuck you in the ass on every item they can possibly expense to keep you stuck to them to pay off your balance. Most of those girls aren't pulling in nearly as much as you would think - although her contracts probably gave her a few mil to stash away if she was smart with it.

Not crazy, smart as hell and admirable.

How hard is it to become an agent?

I dated a runway model in high school. She was by no means a top model, but she gave me an insider's look into the industry. Truth is, unless you are a Victoria's Secret super model, you make dick for money. Hot girls are a dime a dozen--supply and demand. Unless she has the exact height and build for being a top underwear model, she will be making considerably more money doing what she's doing now. Also, as stated, her street cred will probably make her odds on favorite to be a future Fox Business or CNBC anchor. Million bucks says both organizations' executives are well aware of her and have placed her on their target list. Although, I have no idea what her accent is like--if it's too heavy it could be a deal breaker.

Hmm, I just looked over her profile. Seems like she is doing more than just modeling--acting, media, modeling, etc. Looks like she could be on the higher end of the pay scale in that circle given her semi-fame. But generally speaking, modeling pays poorly, even for the hot ones.

On a side note, anyone ever notice that the girls in America's Next Top Model were almost never attractive?

in 12 (or however many) seasons, ANTM failed to produce a single top model. coincidence? The girls on ANTM are reality stars, not models. The first 2-3 seasons had industry standard girls, after that it was a fucking freak show.

More is good, all is better

MMM, models make far less than first year analysts. Unless she was a "top model" she probably was only pulling in the low tens of thousands.

agency girls make decent money. 1500-2000 day rate for catalogue work for the less pretty/aging ones, lingerie catalogue day rates are about twice that (with VS catalogue obviously paying higher than regular lingerie work); look-books are 10 and up, with bigger brands paying more; runways are too wide of a range, depends on the venue/event and the brand: in the US NYC fashion week designers generally pay well and LA Fashion week designers are a joke in terms of pay; campaigns pay the best, and things like fragrance/hair color (that don't have to update ads every year) can let a model retire on royalties. Commercial girls on average fare better just because they have a longer shelf life (after she is done being a student in the ads, she can start playing a young mom, professional, etc etc) and more opportunity to land a top campaign as well as several royalty stream projects, but top fashion girls beat top commercial girls like redheaded step children.

You know too much about modeling.

If you're paid $2,000 per day and work one day a month you're not rolling in cash by any means. Therein lies the problem. Same deal with independent consultants.

I'm convinced that Tyra Banks prevented the actual hot girls from winning or even being selected for the show because of jealousy and/or political correctness. The show was unwatchable.

BTW, I was at a major mall in Kansas City yesterday, getting a few professional headshots for my business card at a mall photographer. I opened the book they have of some of their former clients and the girls would BLOW out of the water any girl on ANTM. The airbrushed girl next door is way hotter than these dolled up freaks they have in New York.

Models are used to sell things to women, not men. ANTM is a weak show, that said the earlier seasons show that most models have a unique look which makes it alot easier for a photographer, designer etc to use than simply a knockout hottie. For instance there used to be a famous bald nigerian lady who was a big time model, she had a very unique look but was not near hot at all. It has nothing to do with political correctness.

That said Xenia probably is going to make similar kind of cash in sales as she did modeling, just a totally different lifestyle. But someone prior said it best shes going to be a CNBC anchor in 3 years max.

You must be talking about Alek Wek. She is from Sudan. Not only does she have a unique facial feature, she has a beautiful skin. Almost perfect. That's what made her a top model.

Xenia is no Heidi Klum or Gisele Bundchen so her opportunity cost by being on Wall Street instead of the runway is no million dollar endorsement / TV deals. In fact she was a no name model before Wall Street, so there is no way she could have been bilking loads of $$$$ if she had stayed in modeling. Look at it this way: She became the talk of the town because she is a pretty girl who joined Wall Street. She is more famous for being a Wall Street analyst than for being a model lol

A $ 30000 contract that happens once or twice every three years is nothing to the exorbitant bonuses that some good bankers can receive every year.

By the way, her internship after ML was with Duet Group. Semerci Osman is the founder and CEO of Duet. She has been following him around lol.

Anyway, if everything that has been said about her is true, prop to her for being talented (if she is indeed fluent (with native proficiency/ or is a smart analyst) in so many languages.) and pretty. Sometimes we have to let go of our presumptions and be happy for others' success.

No one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions; he had money as well.
