Happy Hour Guest: "This place is a bit more expensive than the Galway Hooker, isn't it?"
Me to She: "Have you paid for a drink yet tonight?"
Happy Hour Guest: "No..."
Me: "So there's no problem, is there?"
If it wasn't for WSO on this Friday night, 48 Lounge would have been empty. The modelesque hostesses showed arrival after arrival to our slowly growing group, clustered around several standing tables near the bar. By 10pm, over 30 WSO monkeys had turned up, and I could barely keep up with all the handshakes, backslaps, and newcomers introducing themselves.
With the exception of @fearless and yours truly, this event was almost devoid of WSO regulars. Entirely new faces for this Happy Hour. I invited some new acquaintances from another organization, and they brought their friends, expanding the crowd. It was also a festive occasion for those of us who had just passed Level 3 of a certain exam--congratulations, guys, the carnage is over.
I gotta start out by calling out first-timers @yeahright and @Skinnayyy . Ladies and gentlemen, this is how you make a good first impression at happy hour. Show up on time, chat about work for a bit, order a couple of drinks, and be personable.
"Have you ever tried this before?" I asked @Skinnayyy holding up my Ommegang Hennepin.
"In 5 words or less," he held up his Bud Light, "tell me how it's different from this."
"It's better."
A few minutes later I look around to see many people drinking it indeed. You're welcome. @Frieds any thoughts on this brew for BSD?
I talked and exchanged business cards with many first-timers who had only recently joined the Happy Hour mailing list (including a lovely nurse). People expressed many thanks for organizing, and discussions even took place about some of WSO's greatest threads (i.e, "Who is that guy who challenged someone to a fight on Wall Street and Broadway?").
Someone even came down to the event because he laughed so hard at the story of Three-Piece (see the comments section of "Happy Hour Best Practices and Recaps"), that he had to check it out for himself. "Please tell me that actually happened!" he begged me. "Every word of it," I replied.
When I saw two drunken newcomers with one arm around each other's shoulder and the other arm holding a drink, bellowing things like, "You're drunk, bro! No, YOU'RE DRUNK BRO!" it was mission accomplished.
The happy hours have come a long way and gotten even more popular in the 2 years I've been hosting them. I only hope and wish for further success to our compadres in other cities to spread the WSO love all over the world. There is tremendous value in doing these things, and whenever I see so many people thanking me for organizing a good time, I get a mild head rush that is only slightly to do with booze.
WSO hosts in other cities! Keep it up! You can't let us New Yorkers have all the fun.

man.... @"In the Flesh", now people are going to know that I drink Bud Light!!! haha You said something specific like it's maltier or something, but the completely drunken weekend I had is never going to allow me to remember what you said!
It was a good time and I hope that I can make more in the future!
PS. I don't know if everyone has been reading the posts on how to act at an event like this but I'm sooooooo glad I wasn't talking about work all night!
How many monkeys you get as these? Hopefully I'll be able to attend something in the fall or winter

I'd guess there was about 30 give or take 5.
Shame I missed this one. Any chance we can get another happy hour in before the end of the summer?

I wonder - what's the usual age range at these things? I've never been to one apart from that one time around the WSO conference, and I imagine that most of the attendees are probably on the younger end...?
