My Experience as an Intern with Zolio Investment Management
Zolio Investment Management Internship
In the last month I’ve participated in an internship via Zolio Inc. The company basically has an online trading platform with “imaginary” money but real market time data. So, it has about the same effect of keeping track of your investments in an Excel document except it basically updates the values of your stocks for you.
What are your responsibilities as a Zolio intern?
I should be ideally doing 3-4 hours a week on the platform. They seem to only want students to test their platform. It doesn’t really seem like something you have to actively participate in. So long as you put in a little effort (less than an hour a week), you can definitely manage. There are weekly webinars about helping things you can do while trying to create your own portfolio. However, this program is not very intense so after I go through a few other questions, you’ll get the gist of what this is.
How hard is it to get an interview, the position, etc?
If you have 10 minutes to spare in your day, that’s all it takes. I literally filled out a questionnaire essentially and showed interest in trading when it came to the answers. I didn’t have to hand in a resume or note that I was from some sort of business school.
What value does Zolio serve?
Not a whole lot. It’s unpaid and it’s minimal to zero work. But, what you do that doesn’t follow the standard at an internship can always be noteworthy on a resume. So implementing strategies you learned and implementing them to create “fake” financial gains can be something worth mentioning in an interview. However, this is really only good at taking up space if you need something for that purpose.
What audience should look for Zolio?
Those who are actually interested in learning more about the financial markets, who are undergrads, and have almost zero experience with investing.
That’s all for now, good luck to you fellow undergrads looking for internships!

I came across this short, unpaid internship with Zolio:
Job description: Zolio seeks interns for an unpaid internship who either are familiar with trading or are interested in learning more about trading to actively use the platform and inform the company about the user experience. The unpaid internship runs from March 17-May 23, 2014, and requires approximately 3-4 hours per week. Placing trades needs to be done during market hours, but all other time may be done when it is convenient for the intern. The activities that the interns will perform include:
Actively trade on the platform with the objective being to generate a robust portfolio while staying within the trading rules. Complete the Zolio profile (your account will be deactivated if not completed before internship start date) Complete a brief journal about your trading weekly and per trade as you desire Access learning materials on site and via email Attend webinars approximately once per week Provide periodic feedback (both proactively and in response to our queries) to Zolio about the participant experience on the platform, recommending enhancements and changes to the system and program. Comment and/or blog periodically about experience on the platform (instructions will be provided)
Has anyone heard anything about them? I already have an internship but seeing as how its only 3-4 hours it wouldn't matter.
Also Interested but i'm wondering if they will make you pay for the service monthly. That's what it sounds like since they don't mention free access. Also, you'll be using your own funds to trade - or is paper trading available? Not really much of an internship. Would love to hear from someone with experience at Zolio.
Interested in that as well.
From what I have read it is virtual trading so its live data but with paper money. So far I have not seen anything that makes you pay for it.
Hi, I just got an email from Zolio saying that I have been accepted into this internship. My question was whether there was anyone who did this internship, and how it might or might not help me if I wanna go into investment banking, and whether it is worth something to put up in your resume. Thank you.
Are any of you planning on putting Zolio on your CV?
