Weekend Wars: Oslo vs. Terrorism

This week, Norway’s sleepy capital of Oslo was rocked by what seems to be a coordinated two part terrorist attack. An alleged car bomb exploded in the center of the city, killing several civilians and causing massive property damage. Though I cannot claim to have any explosives expertise, anyone who saw the Oslo scene in the news would probably agree that it looked like a lot more than a car bomb.

The more sickening event happened a bit further away on an island a mere few hundred meters off the coast of Norway. Here, a domestic terrorist by the name of Anders Behring Breivik took his sweet time dispatching of 80 plus people in cold blood. What really made the tragedy was the ineptitude of the local authorities. They negotiated with the psycho as he continued his rampage, claiming that they didn’t have the time to react. The bizarre twist was that this event was a retreat for teenagers interested in politics, a sort of “future leaders” camp.

Obviously, there is little but sadness and remorse to feel for those killed and their loved ones. I am more angry than upset, however. I realize that bad things happen all the time and speak about that frequently on this forum. This sort of situation, however, cannot be condoned and authorities worldwide cannot continue taking such a laissez faire to protecting the public from maniacs.

I know that there are no cures for violence and do not claim to have a proposed magic pill that would make behavior like this cease. I do, however, believe that the time for pacifying nut jobs has long passed. I don’t think that an eye-for-an-eye is always the right solution.

But I do think that it is the only proper method of dealing with terrorists.
Even though you could only kill this little douche bag once there are preventative methods which would work to a greater extent than today’s TSA testicle rubs and massive after-the-fact condolences by world leaders. Yes, some of my ideas would violate civil liberties and trample many of the libertarian ideals I value… fuck it. You don’t cure a plague with two aspirin a day.

Every last piece of shit associated with Breivik should get an automatic ticket to the gas chamber. This scenario and a long line before and since 9/11 are precisely why I will always be a proponent of the Death Penalty. This guy was not fighting for anything but his own demons and diseased urges. I don’t care if you think it makes me just as bad, but sick fucks like this guy should be treated like a virus and eradicated with extreme prejudice.

You may not be able to keep maniacs from doing crazy shit, but you can damn sure make anyone who knows them who has an ounce of good sense… stay the hell away from them. The cowardice and lack of regard for human life exhibited by terrorists of all shapes, sizes, races, religions and political views is the bottom of all depths. I can’t pity anyone who supports them, in theory and in practice.

It really takes no balls to kill the defenseless and I am still waiting for the day one of these pussies decides to attack a SWAT team head on. Killing the defenseless (in this case, almost all of them teenagers) debases anyone being taken seriously. It instantly nullifies whatever message you want to send. If you are really fighting for a cause, fight with someone who can defend themselves and who is an actual instrument of your purported oppression.

Hope this piece of shit rots in hell.

My prayers go out to the victims and their families.

When I started posting a Weekend Wars segment every Sunday, it was really meant to be gimmicky. I wanted to set up some sort of weekly forum for comparisons. I originally wanted it to be an in depth, step-by-step scale for young monkeys to measure between all the things they would encounter on The Street.

Any and all police officers who waited instead of going onto the island should be given the same sentence as the shooter. It took the police, 90 minutes to respond! Unparalleled cowardice on the behalf of the police. How in the world can they not commandeer a boat? I understand that Norway is one of the safest places on earth, but that response should have been 10 minutes at the maximum. \

Secondly, I read large portions of the planning phase of his manifesto. He isn't a nutjob. He just an anti-social and callous person. The planning stage, which begins on page 1350 (not exactly) shows the proficiency of an accountant or scientist. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=89a_1311444384

An utter embarrassement for law enforcement everywhere.

It should also be noted that non-special force police units do not carry firearms. Police presence in the area would have be able to do little..

Wow!!! I didn't know that.

How did this guy get a gun? I thought guns were heavily restricted all throughout Europe?

With certain restrictions you can own long guns and one or two pistols if you jump through all of the hoops. It varies by country, but you usually have to be a member of a "shooting club." Regardless, guns are still a pain in the ass to own/use in Europe. God bless America.

This is very,very sad.

At the same time, I'm thankful it's not a muslim who committed these atrocities against his own people. It's an anti-muslim, self-proclaimed "Crusader".

The point of the above is that the act of one individual does not reflect the beliefs of the rest of the people. What's portrayed as an act of insanity can also be creatively changed into an act of hate and terrorism had he been muslim. Had he been a muslim, people like "JamesHetfield" (WSO member) who PMs things like "I can't wait for the day when the Oil runs out and we can nuke you mother******* cave dwellers" for absolutely no reason will start spewing their ignorant hate and blame the prophet mohammad for all the violence.

The media is an even bigger joke. If you paid attention to the news reports in the first few hours after it was first reported, every outlet at some point said "this is an act of a large terrorist organization, most probably an islamic jihadist group", or something along those lines. Some of them even made up groups (like FOX) to make their story sound sexier ( "Global Front for Jihad", which Fox says it claimed responsibility for the attacks, doesnt even exist)

Why hasn't anybody blindly blamed the teachings in the bible for this act of insanity, this madness? See how unfair the world is? One person or one small, extreme group of people with divergent ideologies should not be considered representative of an entire population.

May all of their innocent souls rest in peace, and may Norway find peace in these dark times.

Greed is Good.

Dude were you asleep during your Racism 101 lectures? Of course the media in a Christian country are not going to generalize about white Christians shooting people and blowing shit up.

Much as the media would love to frame it that way, this isn't a race issue.

Some similar incidents happened before in the early 1990's, with a series of church burnings done by some members of the underground heavy metal circles (the guys with the face paint). Mark my words, it will soon come out that this guy listened to Mayhem or Emperor, and that was where he got all his hate from. Think Marilyn Manson getting the blame for the Columbine shootings.

Extremists on either end of the political spectrum are dangerous. There are some people you just can't reach, but the prevailing attitude is that this behavior needs to be "understood" or that they need to be "talked to."

How many people need to die before authorities realize that doesn't work?

Been discussing with a Danish co-worker all day long who thinks even the 21 yr sentence may be too harsh. Weird part of the world, and God bless the USA.
