WSO Weekly Wrap-Up (12/27-1/2)

In case you missed them, here's some of last week's most popular topics:

Filtering resumes - what I looked for when screening 200+ resumes
Post By @SSits

We are preparing for our OCR interview day for summer interns from one of our target schools and our team received 200+ resumes from HR. Thinking "I can make a WSO thread about this", I volunteered to do the initial cull over the Christmas/NY break. This involved filtering the resumes into "Yes", "No" and "Maybe" stacks in half a day.

Below are some of my observations. Bear in mind that my comments are about how I conducted the initial screening. These comments are not universal in their application - eg. a resume that got through this initial stage will be reviewed in more detail later, possibly screened out.

Ask an Institutional LP anything.

Fire away with questions and I'll give my answers/opinions. I've done diligence on everything from early-stage VCs to megafunds. Feel free to PM if your question is sensitive.

Oil and Gas Overview
Post By @WallStreetPlayboys

Hopefully this post will generate some debate with regards to profiting from the recent drop in oil prices. As we have done in the past, we will do a sector overview and we will unlikely hit on every aspect.

Q&A: Reflections on 1st Semester at Columbia Business School
Post By @dabears92

I wanted to share my experience thus far—the good, the bad, and the ugly—at Columbia Business School. I would also be happy to field any questions. I, for one, have absolutely loved my experience.

Q&A: Looking back on the first few months at Tuck
Post By @GlobeTF

After seeing an HBS and CBS thread on their reflections on the first term of their MBA programs, I thought I'd do the same. Thank you to @dabears92 for the format that I'm using below.

Sales - debunking 8 MYTHS (From a veteran)
Post By @Disjoint

I read a lot of misleading information regarding sales jobs in banks on this forum recently (I am lumping sales/sales traders and all products here). I won't mention any particular users, but it got me angry. Given I have not contributed to WSO in a meaningful way in more than a year (apart from my sly comments slagging muppets...)
Here we go, in no particular order:

Where the smart money is going: elite prep school college matriculation
Post By @Virginia Tech 4ever

My brother looked into some elite east coast prep schools as well as the highly regarded Washington, D.C. area prep schools to see how well they place into college. This includes Phillips Exeter, Phillips Andover, Hotchkiss, Milton Academy, and Roxbury Latin (among the truly elite east coast prep schools) and Washington International School, Georgetown Prep, Episcopal High School, and Gonzaga in the Washington, D.C. area.

Obviously, all of them place well into the Ivy Leagues and Stanford, Duke, Chicago and MIT. However I found some interesting information about where students were matriculating if they could not (or chose not to) matriculate into the Ivy Leagues + SDCM.
