Freshman Year Summer at Target: PWM BB vs. International Internship vs. Study Abroad
Please help me decide between a BB PWM, a global internship program that my school sponsors for free, and studying abroad at a top school (like LSE). The international internship would be an 8 week one in a foreign country (think: singapore consulting firm, hong kong angel investment network).
Could you let me know which one would benefit recruiting more for sophomore year internships? I think the international experiences might be interesting to talk about in an interview, but the BB PWM might provide more marketable skills. Any advice or points of views will be appreciated!
For freshman summer? Just do the study abroad. Relax a little, have some fun, don't stress out too much just yet.
Sounds good. I think the international internship would be really fun too- do you think studying abroad will be more beneficial for my resume though?
Yes – studying abroad, esp. in London (or anywhere..) is a phenomenal experience that you 100% should do. The intl internship, try to do another time (i.e. a winter semester if possible), but definitely do study abroad.
It's also a wonderful talking point, both for resume/interviews and in life as a whole.
I'm a college senior, so I can't speak to your situation from a professional perspective, but if I were in your shoes as a Freshman I would take the international internship. You'll still be able to have some fun abroad, and it will give you good and interesting work experience to leverage for a sophomore internship, which you can leverage into a junior internship, etc.
I have a few friends that did similar things (i.e. VC in Singapore) and it really helped set them apart from other applicants during internship recruiting. You can always study abroad for a full semester later on, during your sophomore or junior years.

Thanks for the great feedback. I'm still undecided between these two opportunities, but the global internship one is completely free and paid for by my school. Studying abroad at a high cost of living place like LSE might be a bit expensive, since financial aid would only cover half of it. Would this information change any of your positions, or make a stronger case for it?
Already suggested the internship, and that is another great reason for it. Seems like the right decision to me, I don't think you would regret it.
