Cass London Msc Investment Management vs Msc Corporate Finance
Hi,
I hold an offer for the Msc in Corporate Finance (CF) by Cass business school. Upon my request, the school has confirmed that I might be considered for the Msc in Investment Management (IM) alternatively.
I choose CF because I am interested in M&A, valuation and financial modelling. However, the Risk Management area fascinate it me also even though I am not sure if it is too quantitative compared to normal CF. My doubt was originated also by the fact that some people consider the Msc in IM to be more recognizable in general and by employers.
I'd love to work in IB or large financial advisory firms and I am sure that an Msc in IM would not prevent me from doing so (even though CF seems to be more appropriate for such jobs). On the contrary, I believe that if the Msc in IM is indeed more reputable, I would stand more chances to get the jobs I am seeking.
As you might see from my statement, I am a bit confused. I am writing here to seek pieces of advise and general opinions from you. Beside confusion, I hope I have been clear enough :)
Best,
Giovanni
Hi Giovanni,
The best way to look at this is to do a Linkedin search and see where people who did both courses have gone. Secondly, on each course website there should be a 'career' website showing where people from each course went. Final resort, contact the career department at CASS and see what they say depending on your career desires.
Ps. non usare il tuo nome vero su WSO ;)
G, Thanks for the tips! I looked up a bit on Linkedin but I am not finding it very useful because I can only view one person per time. Is there any better way of searching? I can see where the all faculty alumni went working but I cannot filter it by course, is there any way to do so? I looked up on their website and it is pretty useful, I wrote also here to look for additional views:)
PS. Grazie mille l'ho cambiato!
I'm not sure if you can filter by course so you might have to click on each one
Lololol mate i've been telling you (Italians)
Pretty similar, pick the program that makes you more comfortable cos as far as I know the workload is not as easy as you could think. Outcomes are pretty similar as well, the only one program that allows you to have more odds is the pure finance, slightly better than the rest
Hey, Giovanni, Can you share your final decision and explain why? I have just the same situation now.
Giovanni, I also face the same situation right now having to choose between the two masters. Can you inform us about the decision you took ?
Hi sovoyek365,
A few years have passed but happy to give you my view. I ended up doing the MSc in CF, great program and strongly recommend it.
Clearly, your decision should be based on your interests and your careers goals. I recon investment management is more "market related" and probably more quantitative, while CF is more generic and more dedicated to the corporate finance function. I ended up doing classic investment banking, which is what I wanted to do and the master prepared me very well for it. Most of my classmates went into IB or consulting jobs, a few into smaller asset management firms.
In conclusion, pick CF if you are interested in the the finance function of companies (how a company raise and spend capital, including M&A) or chose IM if you are more into asset management and if you prefer a more technical (and more quantitative) career
Thanks a lot for the very helpful response!!
Hey Giovanni,
I am confused about applying for MSc Finance and MSc Corporate finance at Bayes. My first preference is to work in IB but wouldn't mind Asset Management as well. Is the MSc Corporate Finance better suited to IB than MSc Finance?
