General experience - those who have got offers, transcript/background checking
Just wanted to post this to hear from you guys about your experience. When you have got offers for IBD BB SA's, when do these firms generally request your transcripts and check you grades/GPA?
Does anyone know specifically for GS. For example say hypothetically I have my offer now for GS SA19 and was wondering when they will ask to check my transcripts/grades? Does anyone have experience or knowledge on this?
Do they do this right when you get the offer? Or do they usually wait a month or so before the start of the internship? From my experience it seems that they check soon before internship, with some firms not checking
Honestly whenever I see this I can't help but wonder why people would be worried about this unless they're lying.
But to answer your question firms usually check during background check and most background checks happen anywhere from March - May. And many firms ask for transcript but some don't, just depends on the firm. And I believe GS does ask for transcript/grades by getting it straight from the university later on.
My firm is going through background check (started early late March/early April) and yes, they did ask for transcripts.
cool thanks!!
so your firm did not ask for your transcripts when you got the offer? they asked many months after right before the internship started?

I've been asked by a near BB bank for my transcript before the super day, I've been asked when I've gotten the offer, and interestingly an offer I took hasn't asked for my transcript.
I think you should take a step back and ask yourself if it was worth it. I'm assuming you're asking this question because it's not as hypothetical as you're making it out to be, so why bump your GPA up on your resume? I saw from your past thread you had a 3.74 and listed it as a 3.8, and it looks like it's been causing you a lot of stress and anxiety.
You probably know 3.74 is a pretty strong GPA, and most probably wouldn't view a discernible difference between the two. Best case, they say "eh it's close enough and move on." Worst case, they find out you lied about your transcript, your offer gets rescinded and you're blacklisted from that bank and potentially other banks they have buddies at, and since you've signed with whatever top bank you've signed with you haven't interviewed or gotten any offers from other banks, and recruiting at other top banks is done and you've missed the boat. If you're going to lie about something on your resume (which you shouldn't), don't lie about something that is incredibly easy to check as your GPA.
Edit: And to add one more thing, there was another thread on here about someone lying about their GPA. They ended up at a top bank, and 8 months into their FT work, they got called in and canned for lying about their GPA. What if during your internship the same happened? You would've squandered an incredible opportunity that you obviously can't list on your resume or else people would ask "why did you leave an internship early?" for something as silly as changing a 3.74 to a 3.8
bankergirl921 if you actually listed a 3.8 on your resume when you actually have a 3.74, you can potentially be super screwed. IDK why you would take such a risk.
okay well i hope im okay!! mergers and inquistions says this though!!!
How much can I round my GPA? List your GPA with a single digit. You can get away with rounding your GPA by up to 0.09 in most cases. Some examples:
Rounding a 3.43 to 3.5 – this is fine. Rounding a 3.65 to 3.7 – this is fine. Rounding a 3.27 to 3.5 – this is not fine. Rounding a 3.33 to 3.5 – this is not fine. NOTE: If you have, say, a 3.54 GPA and you don't want to "round down" and list it as a 3.5, then sure, you can list 3.54 on your resume. But this barely makes a difference so don't spend too much time thinking about what to do here.
Erm no. It's only worth rounding if you have x.x5 or above to the next tenth, so for example rounding a 3.45 to a 3.5. I would not advise rounding say, a 3.63 to a 3.7. You might get away with it, but there's a non-trivial probability that you will not and could lead to disaster like having you offer rescinded.
Anyone who advises you to round UP your GPA in any way is fucking retarded and probably pairs black ties with black shirts on a regular basis. There’s a reason why GPAs aren’t measured in tenths or halves of a point. Jesus Christ.
.
Why round? Running out of space on your CV?
ok! but if one is accepting an over 12-15 months in advance GPA is bound to change by then! so are you sure it would even matter that much? BananaCrazy3620
This is how it'd matter: If at the time you applied, your GPA wasn't as you said it was, then it would. So if when you applied it was over a 3.75-3.8, and then dropped to a 3.74, then you're fine.
But it's pretty obvious you're on here just looking for validation that your fuck up won't be problematic -- you won't change anyone's mind about how severe the consequences could be by posting an M&I link
okay! I hope I do not get in trouble! sort of nervous now :/ Howard Hughes
