Live in NYC on 85k/year? Best locations to live

Sup guys

Senior in college here who just got their first job offer (woo!!)

The total comp is ~85k in NYC, and I'm looking for the best place to look for an apartment

I'm looking for:
- somewhere with a decent (30-40 min with the subway) commute to hudson yards
- decent nightlife
- nice gym nearby

Lmk if you have any suggestions

The average room in Hell's Kitchen, especially if you have roommates, costs at least $1500 from my experience. You are practically spending more than half of your salary on rent from what I understand. Please message me right now if I got something wrong here.

you should look in to brooklyn heights, some of my boys from college went there and are currently working in consulting/banking. It's kinda far but it's good quality for the rent.

Based on that and proximity to Hudson Yards, somewhere in Murray Hill sounds good. You can get a decent place for $1.5 - 2.0k and it would be close to Grand Central, which you can take the 7 straight to Hudson Yards.

Echoing the person above, Hell's Kitchen could also be an option, though I'm not that familiar with the area.

Live in East Village. It is where all the young people live. There's a lot of great nightlife, restaurants, etc., and it's relatively close to a metro depending on where you decide to live.

Do not live in Midtown, even if your work is there...It's just tourists 24/7

Which part of LES? There's the extremely nice area bounded by Houston on the North, Delancey on the South, Allen on the West, and Essex on the East. Amazing nightlife, restaurants, the works. You have Equinox at your fingertips and there's all of these luxury condos and rentals that recently sprung up. The rest of the LES is not super great - it can be a bit grimy and noisy.

You bumped the fuck out of this thread.

I didn't even see that the dude is probably long gone, but I would say Astor Place. Bro could take the green line up to the 7 and over to Hudson Yards.

Not sure how OP could do LES on his salary, the place is ungodly overpriced compared to a lot of the city. From what I saw, a lot of rooms were going for at least $1800.

Also, the place is really grimy, sketchy and dirty from what I saw. Once you get closer to Chinatown, the place is a dump and loaded with freaks.

haha dude Chinatown is Chinatown ... you walk through there and the fish stinks just the same way it does in China. I don't know how they do it.

Hell's Kitchen + roommate would be my pick factoring in the salary. Chelsea/ the nicer parts of LES if you are willing to splurge/ get a raise.

LES would be ok if near the 2 avenue F, then could hit the 7 at Times Square to Hudson yards. That's a really cool area.
