Worth re-recruiting from Deloitte to MBB?
I'm currently an undergrad at a target school(non-ivy) for top tier consulting firms(MBB, Deloitte, etc. whoever else you want to say). I had two final round interviews for MBB for the internship this summer, but did not get them. I did however get offers from all Big 4 I applied for and decided to go with S&O. I was encouraged to re-recruit by my contacts and recruiters for next year at MBB, but I was curious what other peoples' thoughts were. My main question is I understand the prestige is better, but is the salary and potential future exit ops so much better that I'd be dumb not to re-recruit? If someone has numbers on the undergrad salary progression/start for these firms that would be awesome too.
100%
Frankly, yes.
Out of undergrad, I believe Deloitte's salary is 80k base now (?), and MBB is now 85k base. With bonuses, it comes out to somewhat similar numbers all-in. However, MBB also salary progresses quite a bit faster - the exact progression depends on firm and performance which is why it's hard to share the exact progression.
Exit opps aren't going to be dramatically different beyond the MBB-only type exits, but in general, of course most recruiters/openings are going to prefer MBB over Deloitte, all else equal.
This is not to say there is anything wrong with Deloitte, but since you have a stress-free opportunity to re-recruit in the Fall, yes, you would be daft not to give it a shot.
As an undergrad, you should definitely re-recruit, as consulting is almost 100% not going to be you long-term career, and there will be little-to-no downside in re-recruiting for a FT position.
If you were an MBA, the answer would probably be "it depends".
No doubt in my mind you should re-recruit.
Comp trajectory and career progression is much steeper at MBB, especially as an undergrad (e.g. you could be making MBA salary or higher at the 2-year mark; there are Managers who are only 3 years out of undergrad).
Projects will on average be higher profile or interesting.
Exit opportunities will be a step above, on average.
Any thoughts on a similar situation at the MBA level... T2 internship, but thinking about re-recruiting in the Fall. Got to a couple of final rounds but didn't convert this past recruiting season.
