2021 Sophomore SA Recruiting

Can we get a list going of 2021 Sophmore SA programs? Citi just opened their app.

Non-diversity candidate here. From what I've seen UBS, Citi, BAML, and Wells are the only BB that take non-diversity. Every other BB is strict diversity for sophomores. Anybody can confirm or add to the list. Any former sophomore SA's who can share any insight or experience?

Thanks

Look up Citi Sophomore Leadership Program on Linkedin or Google. It won't let me post the link.

I'm surprised how ahead of the game Citi is, especially considering the virus. Most Sophmore SA apps don't open until late summer/early fall.

Bump. Thank you for starting this. Also surprised Citi to open apps this early, considering the fact that many other BBs open later in the summer.

GS, MS, JPM, BAML, Citi, UBS, DB, and Wells are the only BBs I know which take Sophs. Let me know if you guys have any updates.

non-diversity at JPM and MS but only for certain offices and heavily networked in

Looks like Citi removed their application from the website. Anyone have any insight to this/experience same thing? Not a big deal since it's still very early but just strange

I don't see the application on their site, and it was removed from Linkedin... Is there a chance they are going to completely cancel this program? How do you guys think recruiting will be impacted in the future?

They wouldn't cancel it, it's still really early. 2021 Sophomore recruiting is definitely not a priority right now for BBs, so just be patient and once everything settles down you may see some apps open up

Whether or not these programs call themselves diversity programs, they are all diversity programs. If your a non-minority male you have a snowball's chance in hell at landing one of these, even if you have a 4.0 from Wharton. Focus on smaller places for your sophomore summer, these BB programs are a waste of your time if you're not diversity.

This is false, you can network in for a few non diversity especially at some satellite offices and mid tier BB. It's extremely difficult but in no way is 4.0 at Wharton the prerequisite - most likely 1-2 prior internships in IB/PE though which is tough for first years.

The positions they have listed are for diversity candidates at MS

they always take non-diversity kids, just need a connection

If trying to get into BB for Junior SA 2022, would it be better to do a highly involved MM sophomore 2021 internship, or buy-side internship? Non-diversity male at non-target.

Can't go wrong with either. Go to the one that will give you a better experience. I would assume the MM internship would be better in this case but do your due diligence to see where you'll get more deal responsibilities

When was the sophomore application put up? I can't find it on their website.

UBS gives out sophomore offers like candy, almost as many sophomores as juniors for their IB SA because they are shrinking their investment bank and can't give too many return offers but want to keep up the illusion of a normal class of interns.

Definitely not true lol. Sophomore class is just as big as any other BB and junior class is probably a little under 100

Wouldn't neccesarily put it that way but ya they do have a sophomore class size which has no retention cause everyone dips. Also UBS has only given offers to kids that were in Tomorrows Leaders (diversity program for freshmen) on an accelerated track.

If you need to make a sheet you're not getting an offer

Lol was just trying to be helpful considering that’s what this discussion is for...

no, you apply and they pick kids out of a hat to give offers to

anyone know how barclays process works for sophomores? are they like CS and start soph process late in the summer?

Barclays doesn't really have a sophomore program anymore. There's less than 5 sophomore IB interns for summer 2020 across every office, and they were pulled in by MDs/had a family connection, and were interviewed with heavy technicals, probably harder than what we throw at juniors. Every other bulge bracket, wells fargo, rbc have structured sophomore programs from what I understand.

RBC Soph: Yes - Closed MS Soph: Yes- Open Citi Soph: Yes - Open BAML Soph: Yes - Not Open (July 1st) CS Soph: Yes - Not Open GS Soph: Yes - Not Open UBS Soph: Yes - Not Open DB Soph: Yes - Not Open Barclays Soph: No JPM Soph: No WF Soph: ? HSBC Soph: ?

Biggest Soph SA class is UBS (Non-Target & Diversity focused). BAML is also a big class but directed towards targets and diversity. MS takes around 10, CS upwards of 20, Citi around 35, and no clue about the rest. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken with anything but just wanted to lay everything out

Edit: BAML Soph: Yes - Not Open (Sometime late July - early Aug) GS Soph: Yes - Open

Are these numbers of sophomores at Citi, CS, and MS including capital markets and S&T? I have first hand knowledge that there aren't 20 sophomores in the traditional CS IB groups.

WF does have a sophomore IB program. However, it is only reserved for the kids that got into their freshman diversity event. They might not have a sophomore IB program moving forward since most kids wanna leave for other firms.

Sources: WF HR and friend who was part of WF freshman event

Also, ur numbers for # of sophomore interns are wrong. MS takes 20, UBS takes 25, GS takes 20. I have friends in each. I believe BAML HR told me they take around 30. Citi and BAML probably have the highest sophomore class numbers

Is CS out yet? Cannot find any open positions *for sophomores ** * on their career website. They all have a grad date of December 2021 or May/June 2022.

Appreciate this list. Was wondering if you had any info on some other banks like EBs/MMs. Thanks.

Heard from MS Menlo they took 1 soph already, but usually don't take sophomores

will most firms accept OPT for international students? i heard MS might not anymore for 2021??

So from what I hear things this year will be kicking off around August for most programs
