So Tired of Being so Tired
As the late Mac Miller once put it, “I’m so tired of being so tired.”
Anyone else feel this way? I don’t think I’ve slept well in over a year unless I pop some Benadryl. I don’t think I’ve experienced 24 hours without the feeling of huge stress in the past year. I’m just tired of waking up every day. There’s always some new problem. It’s a pretty stressful year. I don’t come on this site as often as I used to, I’ve deleted my social media apps off my phone, and I try to spend more time with my wife. My personal life is actually good, I’m just tired of being stressed out and worried.
Try to build a routine of daily meditation/prayer. Just 5 minutes a day really improved my sleep quality. I was waking up consistently at 3-4am thinking about spreadsheets, regardless of when I went to bed or how much sleep I didn't get the night before. I sleep much better now and I attribute the success to prayer and meditation as that's the only thing that I changed when I finally started getting consistent sleep.
That's some good advice- I will definitely start bringing this into my daily routine.
I've been trying to do this consistently, but it's a lot easier said than done. I try to get in a couple minutes when I wake up and in the early evening (which is easier to do while WFH). Also working out in the morning has helped a lot to and helps set the tone for the rest of the day.
Also amazing quote from Taleb.
Take a vacation.
Unfortunately I'm not in a position now to do so (I'm actively interviewing with a few companies). But I can't wait to take a vacation...
Hey between me and you, I reached peak burnout and faked a few sick days which i treated as vacation while in NY. Did wonders for me and I came back absolutely recharged with almost minimal fatigue. Kept my phone away for those few days too. Really helped
I've been in the same boat the entire year in public accounting. Everyday I wake up and wonder what client will have what problem, or what abrupt chaos will happen because the partner in my office refuses to plan ahead.
That's rough. At least accounting is relatively stable, from what I know. My college was a big feeder into Big 4. I think I knew at least 20 people personally who went to PwC or EY when we graduated.
Pretty much. The low performers got cut, wages were reduced for a short period, raises were abysmal, and no bonuses were given, but I never felt like my job was on the line at any point - and that seems to be the consensus around the profession as well.
Companies are still hiring so I've been interviewing at a few places. I can speak for myself that working through a pandemic has made me realize what's important in life, and stressing about getting a tax return done for some rich jerkoff just isn't worth it.
I got insomnia too man. I feel you. Just like in Fight Club. After a while everything becomes a copy, of a copy, of a copy. I end up just sleeping 4-5 hrs per night but being tired all day.
Yeah I've been taking benadryl but trying to not make it a habit. I think I sleep stressed out and when I wake up it's not usually refreshing.
melly helps with sleep.
I always feel like complete shit in the morning though...brutal. I think a chamomile tea before bed is fantastic
take them in mcg + make sure to complete rem cycles
I've taken 10 melatonins at a time and it hasn't done anything for me. It's pretty weird
10? bro you gotta get the str8 powder and dose yourself. Also, it's not a drug that'll knock you out, it just prepares your body for sleep. If you're consistently fighting the sleepiness that comes when that happens you won't feel it. It should still make you fall asleep easier if you're lying in bed no distractions.
Optimal dose for sleep is 1mg-2mg.
Praying for a speedy recovery
Talk with a therapist. It takes 5 min to find a therapist on zocdoc that takes your insurance. A therapist will help walk you through your problems, which is unlike how a therapist is portrayed on TV. Therapy + switching jobs if you don't like what you're doing will be very helpful. If you like your job, therapy will help you find a routine that will keep you happy despite the long hours and stress. Additionally, try not to become reliant on meds if you can, however, there is nothing wrong with taking meds.
Godspeed.
Good call. I've actually seen a therapist before, was really going through a rough patch in life. While it was really helpful, I know my issue- I try to control my life too much. Working out helps alleviate some of the anxieties.
Stop jerking off. This really drains energy.
This sounds like bullshit, but I can’t lie, it is true for me. Jerking off makes me particularly tired, but abstaining makes me less focused at times.
