Fed up with GLG / Third Bridge

Does anyone think there are better alternatives to getting smart on a niche industry than GLG / Third Bridge and desktop work?  I hate having calls with 5 questions I am trying to answer and the guy going off track / not being able to answer them.

Try Apex Leaders or Coleman. I’ve found some solid industry folks through both of them

Thanks - I always wondered if industry experts could create their own content (market maps / investment theses / niche industry overviews / prior PE playbooks in the space) rather than a phone call.  I have found all of the Third Bridge content to be way too macro.

I would think operators looking for their next gig or those looking for another stream of income would do this.  Anyone know of any companies that do this?

Apex has some folks who can serve as short term guides / consultants beyond just a few phone calls. They tend to be older semi retired guys so not useful for actually creating content but good resources for diligencing a new industry

Former consultant. Interviewing is a skill. Having done 1k+, try to practice (1) figuring out within the first 5-10 minutes whether or not they can answer what you're looking for (so that you can end the call by letting them know they are not the right fit for the information you are seeking); and (2) steering them to directly answer the question by interrupting them, politely, and letting them know that they're not giving you information that you're looking for. Don't let them waste time talking about non-productive information, and if they do, let your GLG representative know (although, if you let the expert meander on the call, and then tell GLG, they will know you are a chump and send you profiles accordingly).
