Anyone actually planning on taking a COVID vaccine if one comes out?

Personally, I won't be taking one. I'm doing just fine minimizing physical interactions and following simple health guidelines. Anyone else can feel free but I don't think it's my job to potentially sacrifice my health because others are unwilling to abide by what are very simple and effortless health suggestions.

Well, if a potential side effect is death, I probably would not take it.  At the moment, I do not have confidence that it is safe and the current administration might try to get it out there before it is safe

Considering it's rush to market that really won't be known. Was talking to a biochemical engineer at a major pharma company and one of the reasons vaccines/medication takes so long to get to market is so that side-effects can be understood and evaluated. Typically they have mounds of data that needs to be sifted through and analyzed but that just isn't going to happen here.

If it will not be known for a while, I will let other people test it out first and see what happens. I am not opposed to taking it if I think it is safe.  I would lean towards taking it partly because it would make seeing older family members easier.

Thinking about waiting a couple months first to make sure no one getting side effects

It is literally the exact same medical professionals following the exact same established processes who have made every other vaccine we take that are making this one. Trump isn't huddled in the Oval Office with a chemistry set he bought off Amazon trying to throw this together to beat the clock. The notion that people are distrusting it just because Trump is the current President outs them in the same category as the rest of the antivaxers, congratulations to the "party of science" candidates joining their ranks.

Now do I plan to take it? No. Because I'm in the lowest fatality rate age range, in great athletic health, posses no underlying health conditions, and this is a virus with an overall ~3%-3.5% mortality rate (likely far less considering how inefficient our testing protocol has been so numbers of infected are likely understated by a large margin). Oh and I fucking hate needles so I will avoid them unless my personal discomfort is literally the only reason I've got for not getting the poke.

Now if I were >50 years old, notably overweight/obese, and suffering from a chronic health issue that the CDC has listed as a comorbidity? I'd be the first in line whether they're jamming the needle in my arm or my ass. It's entirely situational dependent and personally I think the vaccine should first go to individuals that are at the highest risk due to age/health factors outside their control. The sooner they're all inoculated the sooner the rest of us can go back to our regular lives and end this drawn out quarantine catastrophe.

You are greatly underestimating the lengths this administration will go to get something accomplished. A reasonable person would look at the track record of the POTUS and would be skeptical about anything he says or does. These are different times.

One of our many resident liberals coming out as an antivaxer? Let's give him/her/they/them/xer a round of applause, so stunning and brave. Can you recommend us some Medical Board of CA-approved essential oils or mana crystals that'll do the job better than an orange-man-bad pokey pokey?

Like I said, it's probably magnitudes lower. I was just going off the one source provided since it's what I have bookmarked for my Covid discussions. If we really wanna get into it I think this whole lockdown after the 2-3 week mark was a load of politicized bullshit because the people this is mostly killing are old/unhealthy anyway. Sorry folks, but a "natural" *coughithinkchinadiditcough* disaster that only hastens the rate at which people already on their way to meet death get there is in my opinion no cause for me to be alarmed/restricted/give a flying fuck in any way. If you're unhealthy and at risk, it's on you to protect yourself and no one else. Appreciate you making my argument that much stronger though so SB for you good sir!

See my comment to MrBulgeBracketMan, he gets the SB since he said it first.

Depends on.

Is it gonna be like flu shots where you have to take one each year? Or would it last a lifetime like chicken pox vaccine? If latter I'll take it.

Even then,, ill only take it once it's safe and when enough people in the high risk group have taken it. Surely don't want to take it at the expense of someone who has a much higher chance of dying from Covid than I do.

I already have antibodies but if it is recommended for me to take it by health officials then I will, just like the flu vaccine.

Tens of thousands of people have already taken the vaccine through multiple phases of clinical trials, and the reason it has been moving ahead in clinical trials is because it is safe. There are hundreds - if not thousands - of the smartest scientists and health officials behind these vaccines. Just because Trump is president, does not mean it is unsafe. I don't want to lock down forever, I want to get back to socializing, large gatherings, bar, clubs, parties etc. A life without risk is not a life worth living.

They halted their trial because 1 person (out of thousands) got sick after getting the vaccine. This is common among all vaccine trials, but they halted the trial to confirm if the vaccine was the cause or not. They determined it was not the cause, and resumed trials 3 days later. Again, this is extremely common among vaccine trials, but if the media mentioned that detial it wouldn't be as scary.

did you even read that article? It says they measured it up to 56 days and will continue to measure it to confirm it lasts longer. Nowhere in the article does it say antibodies last no longer than 56 days, that is misinformation.

I'm shocked by the amount of people saying no. Maybe I just am not getting the opposition to it--please explain if that is the case. I'll absolutely take it, not because I am concerned for my own health because I probably wouldn't die from it, but I'd rather not risk getting it and infecting someone else. If that happened, them getting sick would be my fault, and I can't have that on my hands. Sorry. Plus it would make my older parents and relatives more comfortable. I am more than happy to get to the back of the line and wait for higher risk groups to take it since they need it more, but when I have the opportunity, sure. I truly see no negative. I feel like a lot of people have a very poor understanding of what clinical trials are and how they work.

The understatement of the century. It's astounding how the same method we've used to make effective vaccines for decades is all of a sudden coming into question because of partisanship.

Yeah its insane. I've even gotten pretty annoyed at close friend of mine about this. Like the FDA is not going to push something through that isn't safe, and they are targeting a 60-70% efficacy rate, which is great for a dynamic vaccine like this. Thousands of people will be tested. This isn't something Trump or Bill Gates (depending on what side you're on) is making in his bathroom meth lab or something.

Dayman?

I feel the same way about the older family members.  My in-laws will not see us in-person despite us offering to see them with distancing and outside.  I would think that vaccines would first be distributed to high risk groups, which is the way it should be.  I will take it when it is available and when I think it is safe to take.

I will take an FDA approved vaccine happily. The reality is that 30-50k people will have taken it at the point and they will have been observed for a few months. Maybe there are adverse events that only show up at 1 per 100k or 1 per 1m but that’s a risk I will take.

But once I take it and sufficient time has passed for it to “kick in” (or get booster) then I am done w/ restrictions on my personal movement & behavior.

I’ve complied with basically everything asked of me thus far, but if we have a vaccine and it’s still too dangerous for certain groups to be out and about then those groups need to be the ones that lockdown.

No. I'm in my low twenties and the risk of COVID is completely negligible for my age. I'd be much more concerned taking a vaccine that was rushed to production from leadership and health organizations that have proven themselves to be incompetent.

The vaccine will only available out there after clearing multiple trials it implies it is tried, tested and absolutely safe. Therefore I would definitely consider getting myself vaccinated.

Think I will, my only hesitation is that the process was super rushed. I'm sure they'll do testing but it won't be anywhere near as extensive as for prior vaccines which concerns me on the side effects. Ultimately I'm pretty sure my firm will expect us to take it asap and return to office so that will probably tilt the decision for me

Do none of you understand the purpose of a vaccine? It’s not to protect YOU. No one gives a shit about your own negligible mortality risk. Vaccination = immunity = no infection upon coming into contact with Covid = no shedding or infectious virus = no infecting those around you who might be too old or sick to get vaccinated. Jesus

KREBSCYCLEOMG

no infection upon coming into contact with Covid = no shedding or infectious virus = no infecting those around

I don't think that's true.

You can still be a carrier without being infected. There have been a lot of asymptomatic carriers who spread the virus.

Fucking wow. Such self-assuredness about something so easily google-able.

If the FDA and experts like Dr Fauci approve it, then please for your and everyone else's sake, TAKE THE FUCKING VACCINE. You all are not medical experts even if you seem to think otherwise

You ever ask yourself why other vaccines take much longer (sometimes a decade) to get fully approved? Use some deductive reasoning on this. I trust the FDA, which is why I'm not going to take a vaccine for a disease that I've already had (and was asymptomatic with), because this vaccine approval is politicized and normally wouldn't make it through the FDA so quickly.

When it comes to public health issues privacy rules etc can go out the door.

W/o new laws companies can say they you can only come into the office for work/meetings with a recent vaccination.

Companies yant to visit for a meeting or sales call can limit visits to only people who are vaccinated.

After legal changes (which come into play during public health crises including removing employer liability), yes employers could require vaccinations.

I do think for something so mild for working age people such as COVID-19, that we should dispense with all the hysteria and that it should be someone's prerogative to get a vaccine for COVID or not - as it is for other seasonal flus.  If COVID vaccine is required then season flu vaccines should be required as well.

I think most of the college kids on here will have/currently have immunity the old fashioned way. When I was a kid I took a fairly experimental vaccine because a cousin I had contact with died of a certain disease and my parents wanted some protection and I turned out fine. I have all eleven of my fingers and toes.

I'm in my 30s, reasonably OK and generally pro-vaccine.

I've gotten everything I could get due to volunteering in a hospital in HS. Even a free second shot of Chicken Pox since it didn't look like the first one took.  I'd sign up for SmallPox and Polio if I could figure out how to get them.  I also get the Flu vaccine every year despite occasionally having symptoms from it.  Even a day of a debilitating migrane is much better than actually having it. (it's a game there since immunity doesn't stay.  I generally like to hit it in early October)

I'm a bit scared about this being rushed.  This is the first new significant disease in most of our lifetimes. SARS and MERS burned out. Lax oversight was a big problem with Thalidomide.   I'd argue about my parents getting it, but I'll see for a couple months, and will recommend against my pregnant sister having it despite working in healthcare.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

I agree and I am not an anti-vaxer as one person here has suggested.  I believe in science and vaccinations.  I mentioned concerns about the safety because I think the current administration is probably putting pressure on the FDA/CDC and probably companies to get the vaccine produced and approved.  Anyone who thinks that there is nothing shady going on behind the scenes has not been paying attention to how this administration operates.  The administration has it thumb on the scale in health care, monetary policy, etc.  Under the current administration, there is an appearance that the federal reserve is not independent.
