MF PE Path

Hey everyone,

Starting FT at a top BB group next year. My question is I understand most people start recruiting first few months in IB to exit in 2 years, but is it common to start recruiting after your first year? Does it put you in a worse position? I want to actually give my group a shot and not start recruiting instantly. Thanks.

I wouldn’t say you’d be in a bad position - I have friends that made similar choices with mostly good results and some ended up with top MF offers. Obviously if you wait a year you’ll be recruiting with the next cycle and will have to find something for your third year before starting PE, but as long as you’ve got good rationale (which seems to be your case as opposed to just failing recruiting the first time around), I can’t see waiting being a significant barrier. Obviously an extra year of work experience means interviewers will likely hold you to a higher bar than the first years so prep accordingly.
