The "right" blue in excel
May be I need to take a chill pill but are you guys also under the impression that the right "blue" to use for inputs on the models should be the 2nd down, 3rd on over from the right on the "More Colors" hexagon?
Call me a old-timer but why the fuck doesn't excel have that blue as a main color.
Excel doesn’t have blue as the main color because most people aren’t worrying about what blue to use in their financial models.
The correct blue is RGB 0/0/255.
EDIT: Can't decide if should be proud or ashamed this is my most-liked comment on WSO lmfao
Spot on. I'm not crazy at all it seems!
For me it's third from the right in the "standard colors" section on the bottom.
ALT H FC M right arrow tab tab tab tab tab tab 255 enter
You can replace all of those tabs with "alt + b". Whenever you see an underlined letter in Windows, "alt + letter" will make the selection.
You fucked me dude
Why would you use blue as inputs? We always use yellow for any input field.
ew, yuck!
Blasphemy!! Get out of here!
I use yellow fill and blue font for drop down inputs.
Fucking kill yourself
What you need to do is use the colors in your company logo instead of blue. Assert your dominance as the premier analyst at C&W or JLL in your capital market pitches.
Right green is 0-128-0
Right blue is 0-0-255
right highlight is 255-255-153
Lmk if I messed up highlight color code lol may be off
My firm uses 225-225-204, but I like yours better, not as pale.
Are we talking about filling cells or just for the font? Because then, am I the only one who thinks 0/0/255 looks too antiquate for filling cells? I prefer something less rough on the eyes like 0/102/255
0-0-255 font is for finance
0-0-255 fill is for legend of Zelda on gameboy
“Can you walk me through a DCF” “Honestly no but let me tell you I’ll always use the RGB 0/0/255 blue for inputs” “Fuck, get this guy an offer NOW”
Bumperino
This brings back chills for me. I’ve been yelled at for using the wrong blue. Pretty silly, but people are ridiculous.
This is the best way to know if someone is legit or not in all honesty.
Wait don’t we just use the fact set plug in and Ctrl + “ to cycle through all the colours you need (red, black, blue, green, white) and save time in typing out the RGB codes?
Mind to expand on this? Google says control + " just fills the cell based on what the above cell has
He’s talking about some mods macro that you can download and assign shortcuts. I don’t like this because I don’t trust the security settings of those macros. Who knows if they have viruses and stuff. Also the corrupt the excel file sometimes and crashes. You should be able to do all that with excel shortcuts or hotkeys.
If you have the factset add-in, the ctrl + " shortcut cycles through font colours (blue, red, black, green and white). If you don't have the plug in installed, it fills the above cell.
I highly recommend the TTS Turbo Macro. It is a simple macro that has good cycles (Font Color, Fill Color, Border, Number Format, Alignment). This keeps me on the right colors with the click of CTRL+SHIFT+C.
Viruses galore. No thanks. Hot keys is all you need. Macros are for noobs.
Others have already given you good information, but I'll add a little color here (pun intended). The wrong blue is RGB 68-114-196.
Have macros that do the blue, green, and red automatically. The amount of time it saves you is awesome, until you think about the amount of time automatically coloring text in Excel saves you, then it gets horribly depressing.
