Does anyone know how big are the typical M&A deals that D.A. Davidson do for FIG? What is comp like for 2nd / 3rd year analyst? Exit opps into BB or EB? Culture? Benefits (Healthcare, expense policy and etc)?
It's mostly middle-market depositories, aka community bank deals. Exit opps aren't great. Likely trade up to Sandler or KBW. Hard to imagine you getting a BB, talk less of an EB. When the BBs or EBs are looking for FIG laterals they tend to work down the pecking order: Tier 1 BBs, EBs, KBW/ Sandler, and Tier 2 BBs.
Based on what I know about DA Davidson, I'd imagine they pay below street. Personally, I wouldn't touch them with a six-foot pole, if you have other offers, I'd consider those instead.
Understand how depositories work. It's essentially a spread business: collect cheap deposits, and lend at higher interest rates. You need to understand how accounting works in the space, as well as how depositories are valued and why they are valued that way (you can't run a DCF), key metrics considered when valuing these companies, understand industry trends driving consolidation in the space, and be familiar with recent deals. There's a good overview of Mergers and Inquisitions. Also, use the search function on this site, this has been covered quite a bit. My advice, pick up a FIG interview guide from one of the major wall street prep providers, good luck!
thank you! my interview is for SA but saw that they also have a tech team which is growing you think i should mentioned my interset in that group which i am interested in ?
