Fuck prestige

I can wipe my ass with prestige. That’s how much it means to me. The desire for prestige stems from insecurity. Whether you like it or not lmfao. (I’m talking about those people that find self worth from the name of the bank they’re in. You know who you are.) The second you get rid of the desire for prestige you will make much better choices. Younglings, don’t fall for the prestige trap. It wears out quick. Instead, what you should focus on is the value of time. OWN YOUR FUCKING TIME. Doesn’t matter how you get there. Just get to the point where you can do whatever the fuck it is you want to do without thinking twice about it.

To be fair this reads exactly like what someone who isn't at a "prestigious" firm would write. So take that for what you will. Prestige also opens up better exit ops which = more $$$. So you can wipe your ass with prestige but I would rather be at GS than UBS.

Honest question then, and feel free to correct me since I'm actually curious, would you take a top tier bank over a no-name boutique? In your early 20s, what else are you really doing except trying to advance your career?

Its not about that but rather people splitting hairs over rank 2 vs rank 3 or tier A vs tier B. People assume "advancing ones career" means going up in prestige but what if the no-name boutique can offer you 50k+ base and bonus? What if the MD of that bank is directly connected to a MF PE? What if that no-name is actually prestigious in one group and you're in that group? There are so many nuances you have to look at rather than just unofficial opinions on "rank".

Also, side note, you argue it like its black and white which is a logical fallacy. Of course people wont reject Goldman over a no-name, but usually people who nut over prestige are the people who get a good MM but feel "disappointed" they are not at a lower-BB, and will literally take worse location, group, comp, and team just to feel better about themselves. Ironically, that is actually hampering your career as opposed to improving it. For example, if you went to a decent MM and your MD promised you live deals in a great group thats hands down better than being back office in GS Salt Lake.

bro shut the fuck up, i still have yet to break into IB and i would hate to work with kids like you, prestige and money isn't everything yes it can benefit you but don't surround your;life around it or else your life will be empty, goodluck with life bro
