Help me choose the right Msc Finance
Hey Guys,
I need your help in deciding which Msc finance program to choose. I have offers from the following schools:
1)Warwick Msc Finance
2)Cass- Msc Finance, Msc Investment Management
3)Rotterdam school of management- Msc Finance & investment
4) Vlerick school of management- Masters in financial Management
5) Lancaster- Msc Finance.
A bit about myself:
I am a non-eu student. Graduated from Deakin University, Melbourne with a B.Com degree majoring in finance & financial planning.
I have work experience of nearly 2years (by the time i join for masters) in a venture capital/ commercial finance private company a Finance Executive.
Am also preparing for CFA level 1. I am more inclined towards corporate finance than investment management. Am comfortable in working any part of the world upon graduation but would prefer Singapore or London.
I need your help in deciding which university will be the best for me given I'm a non-eu student and might not be able to work there upon graduation as per current rules stand. So a degree with global recognition is what I need.
I know schools like LSB,LSE are world renowned but I don't fit the criteria for such schools.
Thanks.
For London : Warwick & Cass seem to be the best bet for you. (Though the Visa restrictions are huge and lets not even talk about taxes). Try and find some firms who can sponsor your work Visa after the course. Vlerick is nice. It's cheap and easily the best in Belgium..but the Visa and the protectionist stance that the EU has adopted has been taking a toll on non EU folks. But you cant possibly go wrong by joining any of these colleges (except may be lancaster) All the best.
Regards
Is MSc Business (Finance and Accounts) at Warwick good? Is it better than MSc Finance at Lancaster?
Take off numbers 4 and 5. I'm doing an MSc at Warwick and came through OCR very well this year. I can guarantee you that every BB puts in alot of effort to recruiting at Warwick - i.e. M&A workshop days by MS and BarCap, practive interviews etc.
I also think Rotterdam has a good rep.
A word of warning though, the only MScs that export well to the international level are LSE and Oxbridge.
What about LBS?
I'm talking about pre-experience MSc programmes. LBS MSc requires a little bit more experience than the OP has, in my opinion.

After further brainstorming and reading what you guys have said, I have put the spot light on Warwick, Cass and Rsm. Vlerick and Lancaster were my back up schools anyways.
Just another question which course should i pursue at Cass Msc finance or Msc Investment management, considering I am more inclined towards corporate finance.
I think you have answered the question yourself. Cass MSc Finance seems to be more suitable for a career in corporate finance. Have you talked to any current student at Cass?
I don't have any contacts at any of the schools I applied. It's just based on what I have read at this forum and various others. Do you anyone at these schools?
So you reckon going with Warwick/Cass/ Rsm would be safe? among these only Warwick offer a specialized track in corporate finance.
I have decided to go for Warwick as its the best among what I have and also cost of living is cheaper than London. I think I can live without the hubble-bubble of big city for a year and focus on my studies! Let me know what you guys think.
It takes only takes one hour on the train to London Euston from Coventry train station (which is ten minutes from Campus). You won't have any trouble getting to and fro London.
Just off topic here, are from UK? could you tell me how far is Coventry from Liverpool?
good choice.
why didn't you apply or mit/princeton?
Right decision - Warwick will set you up well for on-campus recruiting.
