WTF California ....... WTF

So I hit up the La Brea Tar Pits this past weekend when a friend was in town and we were looking for some cheap tourisity stuff to do. I hadn't been to the Tar Pits since grade school so I thought it would be kind of cool to go and it should only cost a couple of dollars if that.

Well I get there after paying $10 for parking to realize that to enter the 'museum' I would have to pay something like another $10 per person -- not really something I want to spend $10 on but whatever. I look further down the price list and I see this

"EBT Cardholder - FREE"

Dear California. Fuck you. I didn't end up going and demanded my parking money back. I pay taxes. I pay more taxes then I wish. But if you are a parasite on the system, not only do you get your food and rent and heat and transportation subsidies but now you get into fucking museums for FREE while the taxpayer STILL has to pay for it.

/end rant.

I don't know much about how the EBT system works so I went to the front page for it on the California government website. This is what I found at the top in bright red letters...

The locations where you can use your EBT card to withdraw cash may have changed. Please check the list of locations on this website to see where you can withdraw cash benefits in your area. You can no longer get your cash benefits at ATMs and point of sale devices in liquor stores that don't accept your CalFresh benefits. You also can't get your cash benefits at casinos, poker rooms, card rooms, adult entertainment businesses, bail bonds, night clubs/saloons/taverns, bingo halls, race tracks, gun/ammunition stores, cruise ships, psychic readers, smoking shops, cannabis shops, tattoo/piercing shops, and spa/massage salons.

Mr. Hansen honestly EBT cards can be used just about anywhere and they tend to be commonly used at gas stations where clerks and or owner will be very lax about the rules versus a chain grocery store.

Even in Texas in cities like Houston just talk to a gas station owner and ask him or her about the fraud due to government food stamps/debit cards or disability benefits and you'll understand why a certain segment of our population strongly believes that welfare fraud is a big deal.

I've seen first hand of an older guy who pretends to be in a wheelchair and uses quite a bit of his government aid on vices and just plain unnecessary items yet by the miracle of Jesus when a car was close to hitting him he magically gained his ability to run back and charged across the street.

Point is this: it doesn't matter if 1 person out of many or millions of people commit fraud...we (government) has created and enabled a system where people are kept alive by other taxpayers from cradle to grave because government aid >>>> working a job and earning a paycheck.

Paulson:

As a native from California, this sums up my sentiments.

A young right minded person needs to start a Conservative in California blog of all the dumb shit California does. Obviously, that person would have to be a much better writer then myself.

Isn't that called the OC Register? They usually bitch and complain at EVERYTHING California does.

I call bullshit on you being a native. It should be obvious that the OC Register takes a sensible approach. If it wasn't for the Conservatives like me in OC and Riverside County, CA would have only two cities in the whole state, Berkeley North and Berkeley South.

Well I'm not bluffing. I've lived in Dove Canyon (RSM) for eighteen years. Go ahead and look it up, it's real.

Haw-haw-haw!!! You went to see tar pits museum when there are LACMA and Petersen Automotive one block away around the corner?

Agree on the sentiment, though. I did not know who in the right mind could vote for current governor, but somehow he got elected. Now they are going to cut University funding even further, and I don't know what CSU system can still cut after getting the budget sliced year after year, unless they start closing campuses. At the same time, a ton of programs that are utter useless stupidity are left intact, like resident tuition for illegal immigrants (legal immigrants and kids from other states still pay out of state).

Guys let me tell you about my experience in SF. During my first week here, I wandered into the TL. For those in the know, this isn't really a place for normal human beings to be when its light out, never mind when it's dark.

On my evening commute back home, I made the mistake of taking the Muni (bus). Want to sit down? Careful, you may sit in a puddle of urine. Want to stand? Better cover all your belongings because people will mug you at knife/gun point. Want to breathe? Well let's just say there was a guy lighting up his CRACK PIPE in the back of the fucking BUS! THE FUCKING BUS!

So yes, while I am very socially liberal, California is fucked.

Happened to me on the BART once. I was able to change but my pitch book smelled of stale urine.

I'm going to SF for a summer program at Berkeley. I'm White, scandinavian, very anti PC and hate parasites. How fucked am I? How i do i avoid ending up as a leftist "literal nazi" meme? Should i just fake it and act super "progressive"? I'll have to get to SF and back from UC Berkeley every day. How do I avoid being killed/stabbed because i dress well? Do you have to Uber door2door everywhere you go? This is so foreign to me, I usually don't even lock my door and have never ever heard of anyone in my life being mugged before...

Just say you're scandinavian. They'll have seen enough Michael Moore documentaries to assume that you too must love inefficient govt jobs and the nanny state.

As for getting stabbed.. Ditching the white ralph lauren shirt might help ;)

Hahahaha dude you are gonna be absolutely fine...Do you truly believe the entirety of San Francisco is like the South Side of Chicago??? San Francisco has many white people that dress well (see: bankers, VC, PE investors, engineers, etc...)

San Francisco has plenty in common with Scandinavian/near-Scandinavian cities like Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Stockholm, etc.

Did you just suggest--flat out say--that San Francisco engineers and VC employees dress well?

You'll be fine. I personally lean progressive, but you'll find people across the spectrum (literal neo-nazi's to literal treehuggers) in the SF Bay Area and especially in Berkeley. East Bay is basically New Jersey (read: scum) to the Peninsula & SF city proper. South Bay is more chill but very boring unless you are in comp sci, engineering, etc.

As long as you're not a d-bag and mutter anti-pc things like "black people are useless" and "mexicans should be deported", which are things you probably don't believe in anyway, you'll fit in.

It's a shame people take advantage and mooch off the system.

But if you think harder (from a macro perspective), often times it's the low wage earners who live off govn't assistance who work minimum wage jobs.

So if you have any MCD, RBI, WEN, WMT etc etc stock in your 401(k) or investment portfolio, in a way, the money comes around.

It took me a long time before I understood that what is good for me on a micro scale may not be good for me in the macro scale. Poverty and the relationship between rich & poor is a prime example. The rich subsidize the poor, and enlarge the pie of consumers by doing so. If I want to cut taxes, I'm harming my future domestic income (because # of consumers goes down, as welfare shrinks), and consequently will look abroad for greater opportunities. Slippery slope to global elites and such, and we basically come to 2016/17 (populist revolt against elites).
