Nomura S&T Summer Analyst 2012

I will be working in Nomura's Global Markets division this summer. I was wondering if anyone had advice on what I could do to prep for this internship in the months ahead of summer? Tips from any past SAs will be helpful (even if not in Nomura)

Did anyone intern at Nomura last summer? What was the full-time offer rate like? And any tips on how to be successful there?

Thanks!

9 offers, 3 got put on hold out of 40 (I can name everyone).

Lifestyle-- laid back, but really desk dependent. Some desks just want you to chill and learn as much as you can. some will hit you with a ton of work. not many people going in on weekends.

culture-- entrepreneurial, ton of people came from different places so they're just starting to gel. initiative is rewarded.

tips-- be sharp and hungry. go the extra mile to learn the product WELL.. and not just the basics. take on challenges. dress well and dress appropriately. pick-a-bagel will always eff up your order so type your prints out. know when to ask questions and when to shut up. have a sense of humor and be able to bro out when its slow and shoot the sht... they don't want to work with people who can't chill.

bonus points-- learn VBA, don't get too hammered in front of HR at any of the intern events, keep a notebook and log everything you learn each day, wear v neck undershirts so you don't look like an idiot and a tie the first day.

desks-- I didn't hear any negative feedback about any particular desk. know calculus and vba if you're doing anything with derivs so you can at least try understanding stuff. FX is fun because you get to play a simulated trading game

I think that covers pretty much everything.

Thanks long-gamma! Sounds worrying, but do you know if last year was an anomaly? Do you know what the 2010 offer rate was, or is this how Nomura usually operates?
