Offer Withdrawn?
HELP! i accepted an offer with a BB for a SA position. out of pure luck i was extended an offer despite my very low GPA (think below 2.9). nobody asked for my CGPA and my major GPA is good. we just got emails from HR saying we would be contacted in a few weeks for pre processing appts and paperwork. does this mean they will ask for a transcript? and is there a chance they will rescind the offer if they see my transcript? i haven't lied about anything but i am having a hard time believing that i was able to slip through the cracks so easily. im losing sleep over this.
oh damn
what does that mean
Man WSO really needs a "Ask a person who works in HR at an Investment Bank anything" thread. Fuck it would ease a lot of these kids sleepless nights and/or prevent bad ideas.

If they didn't ask you for it, and they do happen to rescind the offer, ask why. If they say your GPA was too low, emphasize the fact that you were not asked at any point what your GPA was. Tell them that you were chosen otherwise, so you don't know why you should be screwed. That's probably the most you can do.
Was there a GPA cutoff when you applied? As long as you didn't lie about anything I think you're good.
i listed my major gpa on my school's career website but it was under the major gpa spot and i left the cgpa spot blank so no lies
Usually when they have a spot for CGPA that means they want it...but since you already interviewed and got an offer I doubt it is an issue. However, if they have explicitly stated that they have a cutoff of 3.0 or something then obviously it might be a problem if they find out.
You're probably fine. Hr doesn't want to explain to some md why he's getting shafted an intern this late into the process. It's the path of least resistance for hr.
on the job description it just says "3.0 gpa desired" but not required and it doesn't say that everywhere, only on the e-recruitment job description. i had to really search to find it online
Only reason it may be a problem is if there is a standard cutoff for CGPA. Either way, if you really didn't lie about it and they bring it up, just be honest about what happened.
Relax. They gave you the offer, which means they clearly want you. You didn't lie about anything in the application. The 3.0 GPA cutoff is a guideline, not a requirement (from what you've said). I think you'll be okay man.
as long as you didn't lie, you are fine.
YOU ARE 100% FINE
nobody is going to withdraw your offer for having a low GPA.
You're fine.
can HR reneg offer? (Originally Posted: 01/18/2009)
hey guys so I'm starting as a summer analyst in a couple months and I was just wondering, can HR rescind your offer if they take a look at your transcript and see that you have pretty mediocore grades?
I didnt lie on my resume or anything. I got the interview through a contact and so I didn't have to put my gpa on the resume.
They COULD reneg an offer for any reason I believe. I don't know for sure, but my assumption is that if you didn't lie at any point, then no they would have no reason to do so.

Employment is "at will," e.g. they can pretty much do anything they want (and so can you). My best friend in college got an offer to intern at a very prestigious sports agency (through a connection) and once they looked at this grades, around a 2.8, they rescinded the offer. I don't see why a bank would be any different, especially in this environment.
