What types of cologne do you guys wear?

I'm having trouble deciding which cologne to get. I'm gonna buy some samples to see which one I like more. Which one do you guys like?

I heard Creed is really good (especially Green Irish Tweed)

never heard of clive christian however I definitely don't want to smell like lavender and sage... I just wear the classic D&G... Do you want to know what brand of nail polish I use too? (since you asked -> O.P.I.)

Completely agree. I wear Dolce & Gabanna cologne and it works out great.

Wear something light.

The best thing for you is to keep good hygiene habits. Having no smell is better than having some smell, even if it smells good to some. The thing you've got to understand is that, not all people consider a certain cologne as a good smell. So your best bet is to have no smell at all.

It is not about the title that you have, it is about how much money that you have.

Honestly, if you have a good girl friend take her with you to Saks. It's really how each cologne mixes with your body. You can't try them all on but find a few you really like and see if they work on you. I know a lot of guys who don't wear any and it works for them. They smell sexy without it.

None, let the shower do the talkin (but you should probably wear some deodorant too, just in case, i don't know, you sweat ever)

Remember, once you're inside you're on your own. Oh, you mean I can't count on you? No. Good!

The most common mistake people make is buying cologne that is not suitable for the season. There are fragrances that are more suitable for fall/winter weather and others that are more suitable for spring/summer weather. If you work in a warm climate, I recommend wearing the spring/summer fragrances while wearing a fall/winter fragrance every once in a while to mix it up. I also recommend using AMAZON to purchase cologne, it is much, much cheaper.

Recommendations for fall/winter fragrances usually have some sort of deep wood smell, cardamom, or cinnamon in them; Hermes (Terre D'Hermes), Tom Ford (Oud Wood, Arabic Wood), Dupont (Noir), Salvatore Ferragamo (Incanto)

Recommendations for spring/summer fragrances usually have some bright, colorful smell, usually citrus-y and light; Lacoste (the Red one is excellent), Ralph Lauren (the Red color, #2 I think, is excellent), Paco Robanne (1 Million), Montblanc (Individuel is good)

This. I wear Wall Street by Victor in the Fall & Winter (http://www.basenotes.net/ID26121686.html) its a pretty distinguished retro scent that is definitely more formal than casual.

I actually just stick with A&F Fierce in the Spring & Summer...on the rare occasion something formal comes up I'll reach for the Bleue by Issey Miyake (http://www.basenotes.net/ID26123450.html).

I also second konig's amazon suggestion, I buy all my stuff via ebay and have never paid more than $50 for a bottle. In fact, I have made nearly $2000 selling cologne on that same website.

I only started wearing cologne when I got an electric razor and thus stopped using aftershave though. If you shave with a blade just get some nice sandalwood aftershave, soothing and smells good.

Right now I have ADG and some crappy Nautica stuff, and of couse old spice and some aftershave.

Looking to buy something else, but not looking to spend a lot money. So many options.

I bought my boyfriend this cologne for his birthday and it smells exactly like Creed-Aventus! Jordan Belfort fragrance is half the price of Creed Aventus, long lasting and smells truly amazing! I would 100% recommend this cologne to anyone.

Thank God someone brought this thread back from the dead. If any of you are interested in starting to wear perfumes, check out the Basenote forums. They have pretty much anything perfume related. Not an advertisement, but just mentioning for the few users who are looking to learn more about the perfume/fragrance industry.

I like Creed's Aventus, but runner ups would probably be Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille, Oud Wood, Neroli portofino. YSL's la nuit de l'homme is okay, but I find myself reaching for Aventus more often. It has gotten very popular in the past few years. Did you know Aventus was created for Napoleon?

I used to wear Chrome in college. Got random compliments from random girls, so I stuck by it just because I figured the "If it ain't broke, don't fix" mantra applied quite nicely to this situation.

Tip: Choose your cologne for the season, preferable 2-3 per cycle (Summer/Spring and Winter/Fall( so you dont get bored of the smell. Fruity (lol), energetic smells are for the summer/spring cycle, while strong, frankincense and cardamom-like smells are much more suited for the Winter/Fall cycle.

Creed is amazing, though the price tag is a bit on the high side imho.

I've never really been a big fan of Axe, to be honest. The smell seems to be really... unrefined, I guess? Maybe it's the fact that whenever I'm forced to smell it, it's coming from some guy who sprayed half a bottle on himself. To be fair I do have a couple female friends that like it, but they're sluts, so not sure how that factors in.

A little quality cologne or none at all is the way to go, personally.

Paco Rabanne's 1 Million should be named 50 cents. Or rather "Fiddy Scents" it "develops" disgustingly. The base note is ridiculously strong, top note is WAY too sweet for a man's cologne, and middle note fades out too quickly. I would see it as a good cologne for a 50 year old man with leathery skin, white speedos, oversized aviators, and inch thick yellow gold chain(s).

Jorge, PROPS! I love the smell of Napalm in the morning.

Agro, I'm 26 and have seen Apocalypse now almost a dozen times. Like what the fuck... I mean, that's a classic war movie and is far better than any Wall Street movie that WSO seems to salivate over.

I gotta say, Eddie M's a dirty bastard with his jokes, but Carlin and Saget both got him beat as comedians (probably Williams too)

PS- what the fuck is with these comedians and their dirty-as-hell pieces making their way into the family entertainment side of the things? I know you guys have heard Saget's and William's stand-up, Eddie Braverman obviously has heard Eddie Murphy's, and then these guys go and do shit like Full House, Dr. Doolittle, and Patch Adams... wtf?

Argo, sorry about that. Typo w/o correcting it. My bad. As to the Gobbel's Experiment, I have not seen the movie. I'm familiar with it though, having had to read excerpts of his diaries for a class I took on World War II in college.

D M, Saget's stand up is dirty partially because of the fact that he did Full House. He's repeatedly said that this was his outlet because everyone knew him as squeaky clean Danny Tanner, not The Infamous Bob Saget. You wanna talk about a night out with The Saget, check it out:

  • I would have embedded it, but the embedding functionality is disabled on the Youtube side of things.

Now, you wanna talk about subversive humor, check out Lenny Bruce. He's subversive, funny and, for his time, was extremely dirty, far worse than guys like Carlin, Murphy, Crosby and Pryor at their height. If you listen to his 3-Disc Album Live at Carnegie Hall, you'll understand exactly what I mean. He is, by the way, the original King of Obscenity.

I'm surprised I haven't heard of him before, definitely going to have to check him out.

I don't mind Acqua di Gio, still have mine from a couple years back. It's spring/summer and I'd have a different cologne that's a little less sweet if I were you. It's just a little too sugary for me.

@D_M: my grandfather's father immigrated to Saudi with OBL's grandfather. My dad went through his grade school education with 6 of the Bin Laden kids. I'm graduating this summer and I'm with a Bin Laden whom I happily call my best friend. Our families been working together now for the past 55+ years, so we know each other quite well; they're definitely not what OBL was putting out there to represent his family, country, and religion. I don't think anyone here will ever find it on a map haha. I'm in Jacksonville Florida and hope to do international IBD in Miami or abroad. My friend wants to introduce me to some people in Saudi or Qatar, but I need the proper skillset before relocating. If you ever travel south let me know, I'd like to learn as much about the area/culture as much as possible.

I no longer believe in the whole "respecting the dead" thing. Of course, I don't really believe in shitting on someone's grave either, but I won't treat someone's memory any different than I did when they were alive. After all, they had their goals and things they worked for, for OBL that was to kill me. I can't honestly respect the guy.

I dont think Al Qaeda, Taliban, or Wahhabi/Salafi respect the dead that haven't agreed with them in life and they definitely do not respect life or freedom of choice, or anything like that. Osama got WAY more respect than saddam, and he was like 10 times worse. For us anyways.

AlQaeda and the Taliban are a small bunch of misguided and uneducated people who had nothing better to do. Wahhabism is pretty much non-existant now adays in Saudi Arabia (see: Crystale, The Sands, Durrat Alaroos, Continental Beach...the list goes on).

the people who dont hold the same view as me (respecting the dead and not speaking ill of them) are very few here in the middle east. We simply say "allah yhasibo" , that is: God will judge him (it isnt any of our business)

I'm a big fan of subtle, so Bvlgari Aqva. But make sure you have little natural odor to overpower, because its light.

Walk into a department, let them narrow it down to a couple you like. Leave, do whatever for a few hours (except going to a gym, dive bar or Port Authority), decide (or ask your girl to do it for you) and either go back and buy it or order it online.

I like this fragrance for guys:

MUSC from Bruno Acampora

It's a natural essence sold here in the US at Henri Bendel's. It's sold in an aluminum bottle. It's from Naples Italy. Just a drop or two is all you will need. I 've been wearing it for years And get a lot of compliments. It's a rare manly, unusual and sexy scent.
