3 month process, interviewed for a position in a non-nyc office, living in NYC having just graduated from an ivy league school with relevant experience. Was willing to commute more than 1.5 hours one way for the role, had 5 rounds of interviews with different levels across 4 different offices (to be placed in the non-nyc). Focusing on your personal development through difficult times (not having a role straight out of school), as well as consistent determination to perform well in a variety of internship and campus leadership helped me to establish myself as a strong candidate for the role. Recruiter extended me offer after 5 rounds in the NYC office.

Interview
The BlackRock interview process I went through for Spring Week started with an online application, followed by a HireVue video interview. The questions focused on competencies, such as my motivation for applying, why I was interested in finance, and what I knew about BlackRock. The final stage was a live virtual interview, where they asked more in-depth behavioral and technical questions. They were assessing my cultural fit, understanding of asset management, and how I approach problem-solving.
Interview Questions
The most difficult questions I encountered during the BlackRock interview were:

"How do you see the future of asset management evolving, and where does BlackRock fit into that?" – This required not just knowledge of the firm, but a broader understanding of trends in the industry, like ESG investing, technology, and regulatory changes.

"Describe a time you worked on a team where someone wasn’t pulling their weight. How did you handle it?" – This behavioral question was tough because it needed a specific example and demonstrated how I navigate challenging team dynamics.
