first talked to a person one-on-one with easy questions about getting to know me, why CNB, etc (lasted 20 minutes)
then had an interview with 4 people (two 2-on-1 interviews) (1 hour long total). I talked to one person from each department in credit. No technical questions, mainly behavioral. It seemed very casual.

Interview
I got an interview a couple of weeks after submitting my resume. It consisted of a 30-minute phone interview, asking about basic leverage ratios, financial statement knowledge, relevant coursework, teamwork, past projects, and a resume walk-through. Overall the experience was comfortable. The process varied, some people had several interviews, while others had one or two.
Interview Questions
The interview consisted of questions covering financial statements, leverage ratios, relevant coursework, and behavioral questions like have you ever been involved in a team project where you had to make a big decision. The very first question was, walk me through your resume. There were two people on the phone call and it was fairly comfortable. I would say the hardest questions were the fit technical questions because at the time I had zero relevant coursework other than accounting. Overall it was a pretty good interview.

Interview
Spoke with a VP over the phone, general things about my resume and what I wanted to accomplish in the future. Firm culture appears to be friendly. Low drama.
Interview Questions
The unexpected question they asked me had to do with my customer service experience. I had listed on my resume that I worked as a tutor in the past and the interview informed me that the role had involvement with working with clients and other departments that were not as well informed about finance/financial markets. He had me explain any recent observation about the market and the roles in might play in a bond portfolio. Afterwards I was told to explain the role rising interesting rates would have on a corp bond and a treasury. It was pretty easy, but I think I over explained just to be thorough.

Group Interview
Interview
Met with HR for a 30 min consultation first. Just career goals and why City National. Those type of typical questions. The first session went over time. Then every session became late from there. Met with group head one on one, then met with two other teammembers. Very poorly organized. The group head was a very kind and intelligent guy. Seems very approachable and likable. However, one group member (older) was very aggressive and seemed like his only mission was to find a question I couldn't answer. It was more of a horse race than an interview. Very very unpleasant.
Interview Questions
Walk me through a bank's balance sheet? What are the typical off-balance sheet items for commercial banks? Explain to me the three Capital Adequacy Ratio - CAR .
lot of questions about statistics. Explain what is ordinary least squares. What is p-value? Questions are hard. You can't really prepared for it. If you don't know, you don't know.
Some strange questions related to macroeconomics such as Keynesian equation--the identity in macroecon.
The older guy on the team was very confrontational and unpleasant.

Interview Questions
Question: Of the 5 C's of Credit, which is the most important, and why?

Answer: Character. The numbers matter but it is not the numbers that pay us back. Good people will always find a way to pay you back while bad people will do the opposite.

*Disclaimer: This is a good answer for a Regional Bank as we focus on the character/ relationship a lot more than a Commercial BB.
