Interview
I had the opportunity to interview for an internship position at EY (Ernst & Young) in the field of risk. EY is a globally renowned professional services firm, and I was excited about the prospect of joining their team. Here, I will share a detailed account of my interview experience, from initial communications to my perceptions of the people, office, and work culture.

Initial Contact and Application:
The process began when I came across the internship opportunity at EY through my college's placement cell. I submitted my application, which included my resume and a cover letter detailing my interest in risk management. A few weeks later, I received an email acknowledging the receipt of my application and letting me know that I would be contacted for further steps if shortlisted.

Pre-Interview Preparation:
In preparation for the interview, I researched EY's services, core values, and recent industry trends. I also practiced answering behavioral questions and reviewed fundamental concepts related to risk management and finance.

First Round - Telephonic Interview:
The first interview was a telephonic screening conducted by an HR representative. This round focused on my background, experience, and why I was interested in risk management. The HR representative also discussed EY's values and culture, and the interview lasted about 20-30 minutes.

Second Round - Virtual Interview:
After passing the initial screening, I was invited for a virtual interview. This interview consisted of two parts. The first part was a technical assessment, which involved solving a case study related to risk management. The second part was a behavioral interview, where I was asked about my problem-solving skills, teamwork, and my ability to work under pressure. This interview lasted around an hour and provided a comprehensive evaluation of my abilities.

Third Round - On-site Interview:
The third round was an on-site interview at the local EY office. It began with a tour of the office, which gave me an insight into the workplace environment. After the tour, I had two back-to-back interviews. The first interview was with a manager, and the second was with a senior manager. Both interviews primarily revolved around my technical knowledge and my ability to apply it to real-world scenarios. I was also assessed on my fit with EY's culture and values.

Final Round - HR Interview:
The final round was an HR interview, which was more of a formality. It involved discussing compensation, benefits, and logistical details. It was a relatively short interview, lasting around 15-20 minutes.

Office Environment and Work Culture:
During the on-site interview and office tour, I was impressed by EY's modern and professional workspace. The employees seemed friendly and approachable. The work culture appeared to be collaborative, with a strong emphasis on professional growth and development. EY's values, such as integrity and teamwork, were prominently displayed throughout the office.

Advice for Future Candidates:

Research EY thoroughly to understand their services and values.
Prepare for both technical and behavioral questions.
Showcase your ability to work in a team and handle real-world scenarios.
Be yourself during the interviews and demonstrate your genuine interest in the role.
Ask questions during the interview to show your curiosity about the company.

Conclusion:
My interview experience with EY for an internship in risk management was rigorous but insightful. The process was well-organized, and the company's culture and values were evident throughout. Ultimately, I was fortunate to receive an offer for the internship, and I'm looking forward to joining EY and contributing to their risk management team.

Met with a SaT team member during a career fair, bypassing the first round. Went straight to the Central superday, had 3 25-minute 1-on-1s with Senior Managers and Executive Director. One interview was heavy technicals, one light technical, one behavioral/Q&A. Knowledge of the DCF, market multiples, and 3FS are enough for technicals.

Interview
Started with an email abut 2 weeks after applying. Asked me to verify my location preferences within the next 24 hours. I feel like this was to weed out the kids who won't respond in time but maybe that's just me. Self-recorded interview about a week later. Given 2.5 days to complete. Questions were pretty specific and just behavioral, about 7 total. "What do you think of disruptive tech such as AI" "Describe a time at work when some equipment/technology was not working properly, and how you dealt with this". I'd definitely recommend having narrative answers ready.
Interview Questions
Maybe the most difficult question was something like "We at EY value diversity and seek to promote individuals' talents" and then asked how I employ that and feel about that. I felt it was difficult only because it's potentially a touchy subject and ofc you don't want to misspeak and sound exclusionary.

Interview
Going through the interview and hiring process for an Assurance Internship at EY was a comprehensive yet rewarding journey. To kick things off, I started by submitting an online application through EY's careers portal. It's crucial to ensure that your resume and cover letter are polished and tailored to the position. Make sure you highlight your relevant experiences and qualifications.

After successfully passing the initial application stage, I encountered a series of assessments, including aptitude tests and a personality assessment. For the aptitude tests, I recommend dedicating time to practice and sharpen your numerical, verbal, and logical reasoning skills. Websites and books with sample tests can be incredibly helpful in preparing for these assessments.

For the personality assessment, be authentic in your responses. EY is looking for candidates who align with their values and culture, so it's essential to showcase your true self.

If you progress beyond the initial stages, you might be invited to an assessment center. Here, you'll participate in group exercises and case studies. Emphasize your teamwork and problem-solving abilities. Be proactive in contributing to the group's success while maintaining a collaborative approach.

The final interviews with EY professionals, including managers and partners, are crucial. Prepare thoroughly by reviewing your resume, understanding EY's core values, and practicing answers to common interview questions. Be ready to discuss your technical knowledge and experiences, especially as they relate to assurance.

Sample interview questions include:

"Tell me about your background and what drew you to an Assurance Internship at EY."
"Describe a challenging teamwork experience and how you resolved it."
"How do you stay updated on accounting and auditing standards?"
"Can you share an example of a time when you had to meet a tight deadline?"
"How do you manage stress and high-pressure situations?"
Once you've successfully navigated the interviews, carefully review the offer terms and ask any questions you may have before accepting it. Once you accept, the onboarding process begins, including orientation and training.
