Networked with several analysts on the recruiting team for University of Virginia. The recruiting team selects around 10-15 people to attend superday, no prior interviews were conducted (selection based off of networking calls). Got superday email and next week they flew us out to NYC for in-person interviews. Consisted of a morning (30 min) technical interview. Candidates left to go get lunch, and the recruiting team cut about half after the technical round. I received a call back after lunch and came back to office for 2 30 min behavioral. Not bad. Office culture seemed top tier.

Interview
Beginning with a first round interview with 1 analyst, the interview focused on my resume/experience, very basic behaviorals (TMAY etc.) and very basic technicals (How does leverage amplify returns, what is the CoE). I then moved onto the second round where 2 analysts interviewed me with essentially the same difficulties in terms of behaviorals and technicals as my first round. Finally, I moved onto the Superday where it was 6 20 minute interviews mostly behavioral/conversational focused.

Interview
I applied online and received a first round at the firm, within the restructuring group. It was a 1on1 call with an analyst, who asked me fairly easy technical questions. Ex. WHy do companies go bankrupt, chapter 7 vs. chapter 11, basic waterfall. There was no time at the end left over for them to ask me questions. Was a non-behavioral interview, apart from TMAY.
Interview Questions
- What is Levered FCF? - I wasn't sure
- Can't remember specifics, but was a simple waterfall question with 2 pieces of debt (sr. and unsec.d)

First Round: Phone Screen
Duration: Approximately 20 minutes.
Focus: This initial screening seems to focus on basic qualifications, understanding of the role, and initial assessment of fit with the company's culture and values. It likely includes behavioral questions to gauge your motivations and career aspirations, as well as possibly some high-level technical or industry-related questions.
Second Round: Zoom Interview
Platform: Conducted via Zoom, allowing for a more personal interaction compared to the phone screen.
Content: This round probably dives deeper into your skills, experiences, and how they align with the role's responsibilities. Expect more in-depth technical questions relevant to the position, discussions on past work experiences, problem-solving abilities, and possibly situational or case-based questions to assess analytical thinking and decision-making.
Observations and Tips:
Preparation: Being well-prepared for both technical and behavioral questions is crucial. Reviewing the company's recent projects, understanding its market position, and being able to articulate how your experience and skills make you a suitable candidate can be advantageous.
Engagement: Showing genuine interest in the role and the company, asking insightful questions, and being able to discuss industry trends or recent news related to Guggenheim's business areas can help stand out.
Technical Proficiency: Depending on the role, a solid grasp of relevant technical skills or industry knowledge is essential. Be ready to discuss your past experiences in detail and how they prepare you for the challenges of the role you're applying for.

I applied online to Guggenheim's Capital Structure Advisory group. An associate reached out to me saying that they would like to offer me a thirty minute technical first-round interview. He asked me to send him a few times that worked for me in the next week and the interview was scheduled for the very next day. He asked me to introduce myself and jumped right into the technical questions. He asked me why RX, difference between chapter 7 and chapter 11. Asked me what automatic stay was. He asked me what would happen to the financial statements if there was an asset write up. What would happen to the financial statements when deferred revenue decreases. Asked me one long windfall question at the end of the interview that I did not know how to answer. The interviewer was nice.
Interview Questions
Asked me how unlevered free cash flow could equal EBITDA.

Guggenheim recruited on campus. After several months of networking, dinners, and events at their office they held first rounds. Throughout the networking period, the firm dropped people from their process based on behavioral "networking" chats. The first round was a straightforward 30 minute interview which was mostly technical.
Interview Questions
Company A has a P/E ratio of 10x and Company B has a P/E ratio of 15x. If company A acquires Company B using all debt, is the acquisition accretive or dilutive?
Company has 50 shares outstanding, share price of $20/share, Debt $300, cash of $100. What's the total enterprise value?

Interview
Apply in the normal time frame in early spring. I got my super day email without having the first round; not sure if that is how it is for everyone. They fly you out to the office for the super day where you have a first round in the morning that is strictly technical. Then you go to lunch and wait for a call to find out if you made it to the next round which is two behavioral with senior bankers. Simple questions with some situational questions. Technicals were everything you'd expect, but pretty hard. Some questions about dividend recaps and LBOs and cost of debt/equity. Other than those, all the expected ones and some accounting stuff.
Interview Questions
Dividend recaps were unexpected and a couple paper problems. Some of the questions about cost of debt/equity were kind of difficult.
A few of the questions were about accretion/dilution with different financing options.
