Interview
I reached out to an alum and he put me in touch with an HR contact. We had a brief phone call to discuss my academic background. I received an email that afternoon inviting me into the office for a superday. The superday consisted of a trading simulation, 2 one-on-one interviews, and a group presentation.
Interview Questions
the trading simulation wasn't something I was prepared for, but I believe my confidence and calmness really enhanced my ability to perform well. There was a buzzing countdown in between trades that was meant to increase nervousness, but I think if you remain focused on the relevant information displayed on the screen, you should be fine. The 2 one-on-one interviews were extremely relaxed and were purely behavior/fit based:
why did you study finance
why did you go to (name of university)
why do you want to be a broker
what do you do for fun
have you traveled abroad
do you have any questions for me

Interview Questions
What are the differences between the divisions in our firm? Since I didn't know what the firms other divisions were I struggled answering this question. However, most questions were standard competency based questions. The call lasted around 25minutes and I thought it was ok apart from this difficult question since it exploited my lack of awareness into the firm. Other competency based questions consisted of; tell me a time you worked in a team? Tell me a time you communicated effectively? ETC.

Phone interview, then group interview then presentation. It wasn't too bad, mostly behavioral questions.
Interview Questions
Initially I tried to undercut the competitor in order to gain market share, hoping that customers would stick with me once I gain enough market share. I then tried to gradually raise prices. This technique didn’t work to well and customers very quickly went to my competitor. I also noticed that gaining market share was very slow and my competitor decreased prices as well which made it harder to increase my prices moving forward. Eventually I changed my strategy and decided to have very high prices since I knew gaining and losing market share was a relatively slow process. I made more money here. After this I analyzed the financial data and realized there was a high fixed cost. I realized we could use fewer vehicles than our total inventory.

Interview
First round was a simple phone interview checking basic technical aptitude and general fit questions. Second round was a in person assessment center (AC) round which consisted of a SHL style math test, a timed trading simulation (currency conversions), two one on one interviews and a group exercise and presentation. Final round was a panel interview with four senior executives.
Interview Questions
Who do you know in the market?

As a university student, this question was off-putting because obviously I don't have a wide network in the market. I talked about my school's strong alumni network and the propensity of alumni to network extensively with each other which sets it apart from other small semi-targets it is comparable too.

Exercises in triangular arbitrage.

I did not have much experience with forex, so having to do currency triangles on the go was unexpected for the position I was interviewing for.

Interview Questions
They asked a number of slightly unexpected questions. For example, "what would you do with one million pounds if you could not invest it?" Think they just wanted to see what type of person you where and how creative you could be. Another question along a similar line was "what business would you set up and why." These were the only odd questions and the rest were mainly focused around the business area, what they did, what you knew about it, why you wanted to work for the firm and some general market knowledge questions.

I applied through their online application platform and I can say I was very pleased with it, since it didn't require to put a lot of information. Unlike the big banks where you have to respond to several questions, at ICAP I just uploaded my CV an CL. In less than a week after completing my online application, I received an email inviting me to a phone interview two days later. The phone interview lasted for 25 minutes in which I was asked mostly fit questions and not a single technical one, but they asked about my opinion about the markets and how it would affect ICAP.

Interview
Starts with a basic phone screen where you're either asked all simple fit questions (e.g. your role on a team) or a few basic technical questions as well (what happens to bond prices when interest rates go up, etc.).

If selected, the 2nd and final round for the industry insight externs takes place at their office in Jersey City. You interview with 4-6 other people consisting of a mix of people interviewing for the externship program as well as the full internship.

The interview starts off with a "video quiz" where you have to answer questions presented on a TV screen. Essentially, they show you a video that resembles a CNBC news screen with stock prices, exchange rates, and news updates. You have to answer a series of multiple choice questions regarding what's on the screen in 40 seconds. None of the questions are technical, and they're all mechanical in nature (e.g. If XYZ is currently trading at $1256 USD and has grow 6% since market close yesterday, what was XYZ trading at yesterday in GBP?, etc.). Not hard questions, but you do have to answer them quickly. You're given a calculator, or you can bring your own.

Those interviewing for the full internship then have to take an additional written test, but the externs do not.

This is then followed by a group presentation where the interviewer divides the group in half. You're assigned an asset class (equities, fixed income, credit derivatives, etc.) and given a copy of their annual report and have 20 minutes to prepare a 5 minute sales pitch to a potential investor in that asset class interesting in working with ICAP. This is then followed by a Q&A period with HR. Make sure you have a general idea of all the products/services ICAP provides and what their niche is (BrokerTec, EBS, Rematch, etc.).

Finally, you have a one on one fit interview with HR, which was pretty laidback.
Interview Questions
Nothing was particularly difficult. However, make sure you bring your own calculator and can quickly do percent change type questions on it. Also try to familiarize yourself with a general understanding of ICAP's various products (BrokerTec, EBS, Rematch, etc.).
