A few weeks later I got an email from an ED in the group for a phone interview (I was a little confused why I didn’t get in contact with anyone from HR prior, just a random email from an ED). The phone interview was nothing unexpected: conversational, walk through resume, a few statistic/general thinking questions, etc.
And a week or two after that I got an email from HR with a super day invitation for June (which was alongside the other “real” IB groups if you’re curious about those timelines too). (For NY office)
Super day was 3 half hour interviews (1 ASO 2 VPs) and two 30 min breaks since it was crowded with many other candidates. Since it was public finance, there weren’t really any true technical questions -just broad market questions and qualitative questions. Each was very conversational and resume driven.
Within a week I heard back with a decision. I didn’t get selected, but it was really a shot in the dark attempt since I forgot I even applied and did zero networking and had zero connections. I was pretty shocked I made it that far given I’m from a non/semi target (think Carnegie Mellon /Case Western/ Rochester) and interviewed against top of the bucket targets (UChicago, Penn, Stanford had people interviewing for the same program) as well a few locals/semi targets (NYU/Emory/Fordham). My GPA was around a 3.75 and I had one prior internship at a GSE, so not too impressive of a resume and I stumbled to a super day.
