Interview Questions
I was not expecting them to ask as many questions regarding my resume as they did. Also, have a good why SMBC and understand that if you are looking for M&A activity, this is probably not the bank for you as they largely do large refinancing and other types of debt deals.

Process was different than other banks, as SMBC typically handed out interviews from their Explore day in which you would select a sector (ie. Debt Structuring) that you are interested in and then upon a successful interview, you would then be selected by one of the teams within that vertical for a Superday. The Superday was not very technical with 5 interview in total and about 2 technical questions asked per interview but nothing that was terribly difficult (ie. 10 dollars of depreciation).
Interview Questions
If a company has 30% debt capacity, but needs to raise additional debt that would take them over this threshold, what is the best way to go about this?
If you have an increase in $10 of depreciation, walk me through the impact to all three financial statements?

First interview online with 2 VPs from the coverage group. Many questions asked about my personal experience and going in depth into what I had previously done (RE credit risk analyst). Followed up with many technical questions about how companies raise debt and the different parties intervening in bond issuance. Several questions about the analysis of a company and what to pay attention to. Next interview was 1v1 in the offices with an MD. Presentation of the company, the business line and what I could be confronted with if I were to join. Questions were about getting to know me, what I did and what I was interested in. Received a call the next day with an offer.

A recruiter found me on LinkedIn and emailed me the job spec. I submitted my job application via the Bank's recruitment portal and had a Webex interview with the hiring manager. Language skills were sought after, so the interview was predominantly in Japanese. 2 weeks after the interview, the manager contacted an internal referee who knew me and another week or so later I had the HR interview. A few days later I received an offer.
