What's causing your depression? If it can be addressed by you, you ought to see if you have the strength to fight back. You can also consider getting a therapist if you can afford that. As for your mom, her reaction is really unfortunate. Hope you find a way forward without harming yourself.

Psychiatrist not therapist.

See a psychiatrist immediately. If you feel like ending your life and have the means to do so, call 911 and someone will pick you up and take you to inpatient therapy. Good luck - I've been there before.Β

Ok let's go over the basics. You have stressors which feed into your depression. You need to use healthy coping mechanisms to relieve this pressure and stress. Find some activities you enjoy and also hit up the gym as often as you can. Eat healthy and feel good. Hydrate all the time.

Recognize you can't do it alone and use your support system to help you get through this. Coming on WSO was a good move for support. Even if you don't get along with your mom, maybe do a nice deed for her.

Focus your world on how you can help others and soon the depression will begin to fade. Also, make sure you're getting good sleep as well.

If you see a psychiatrist, they can provide medication if needed that will fix these negative chemicals in your brain.

I'm surrounded by fake people who pretend to give a damn about me, my confidence went out the window since 2020, I haven't gone out for so long and find it difficult to meet new people

Out there are thousands of people who will genuinely care about you, but first you need to meet them. It may sound clichΓ©, but remember the saying: In 1 year you can meet 1,000 people by being interested in them vs. meeting only 2 by being passive and hope others will get to know you. I assume that you have some unique points of view, experiences, reflections, etc. which some people will find it really interesting and would be glad to get to know you and share things together.

Put some effort into putting the first brick towards a relationship with people whom you find on the street, public spaces, events, etc (people who get around librares are some with the easiest with whom you can connect because they have curiosity and will gladly listen to you if they aren't busy). Some tries will work, others don't.

Also, there are really cool people in your zone, in your city, in your country who also seek the same type of friendship as you. Around the globe there may be around 10.000 people whom would fall into your "soulmate" criteria and 1,000,000 people who could really resemble you from which 1/4 of them would gladly by friends with you. You just need to find them. Also, if you work in professional cities i.e. NYC it may be harder to find such relationships, so consider moving out.Β

If you really need to call the number given above do it, otherwise I will start to cut stressors from life - high demanding job, extra responsibilities, etc. - and focus on things that could make a difference in your day to day. There's no need to keep pushing it and add even more stressors - even if they are healthy - such as gym, etc. until you get some mental clarity and understand where exactly are the issues, how those can be attacked and how you'll do it.Β

P.S.Β Don't stress it too much with what happened with your mother, everybody needs to eat the toxic shit from their parents. They didn't grew up with therapy and opening up, so things which they hold in the past are currently manifested as toxic behaviors or mindsets. Just accept that you're from a generation which sometimes may get into conflict with previous ones.

As someone who spent weeks planning various suicide attempts and had the implements ready believe me when I say I've been right in your spot before and even further along the suicide spectrum. Today I can say with confidence I've passed that phase.Β

The biggest reason I wanted to end my life was that I felt hopeless that my current situation would improve, and that I had little impact on anyone outside of shallow characteristics and it seems to be you're in that same spot as well.

Looking at your situation I have a few thoughts:

1) You say you'd like a boyfriend but you've not gone out since Covid hit. If you're worried about the side effects or Covid, toss that aside. Since the current direction you have is suicidal where you want to die, there's no harm in choosing a new direction that will change your life while the chance of death for this direction (assuming no medical irregularities) is very low. And you can always wear a mask if you want to.Β

2) You say you have an abusive mother and no father but judging by your comments are still at home. Why? Can you move out today? If not, Β What can you do to work towards changing that situation? Come up with a game plan that will give you hope that you can work towards.Β
Β

3) What else are you depressed about and what can you do to work towards changing that situation? Being able to find goals (even small ones) that will change or help to change your direction in life is critical.

4) Read about the sufferings of others domestically and abroad. This sounds counter intuitive, but it has helped me tremendously to realize that even if I think my situation is bad there are people who have gone through worse, and that I have blessings I don't even realize. In a suicidal phase one focuses solely on the negative, and having a different perspective is often required.
