Please give me some advice for on applying for MBA( Update: I’m in T15. Thanks for all!)

Hello Monkeys.I need some advices on how to achieve my goal which is entering a MBA program in US. Little about me. I'm from China, currently working in a valuation firm. Before then, I worked at Big 4 audit for a year and a half. The thing is I recently got an offer from a Big 4 financial advisory line offering a senior associate position. I'm quite confused at should I take the job which may leave an impression of switching jobs too quickly or should I leave it which means I may not get promoted when I'm applying MBA.Additionally, I'm planning to apply for MBA in 2023.Thank you all.(updated in 2023)

From what I am getting - your problem with your current position is the title. You think that an analyst title will be seen as a negative by the ad comms. Which could be true.

But you need to weigh your negatives. What is going to look bad? Staying at a job for only 5 months or having the title of analyst?

Remember that title can only take you so far. So even if you are a senior associate - but not doing any meaningful work, ad comms will not care about it. On the other side - if you are an analyst and you are taking on more work than others, taking initiative, working on big projects - they will ignore your title.

What you do matters most. If you like what you currently do - I say stick with it and look to do meaningful work. If you absolutely don't like what you do - there is no point of staying because the situation will only get worse. Plus you don't know how to good/bad the other position will be. Look at it from the work/job point of view, rather than the title. You still have 2 years before you apply - so hit the ball out of the park at your current/future position.

Thank you for the tips. I really enjoy my work in valuation. It’s just that sometimes I’m too concerned about the title thing. I see many posts talking about the promotion matters. And from what I gathered, the new position offers meaningful work regarding strategy and investment provided to government.

Remember that MBA applications are assessed holistically.

In most cases schools use a 25/25/25/25 split to assess a candidate. Some schools do differ where they put a higher weight on one category than the rest.
This split means that a school assess a candidate on Academic Performance 25% - GMAT 25% - Work Experience / ECs 25% - Demographics/LoRs/Essays 25%.

Within this section lets talk about the work experience / ECs 25%. To drill this down (differs from school to school) but it may look something like 15% work experience - 10% EC or 20% work exp and 5% EC.
Within that 15% work experience weight - Company location/Company Name/Job Title will only be worth for about 5% (if I had to guess). the rest 10% is based on your actual job responsibilities and achievements.

This is why I bring up the point about you liking you job. If you like your job and enjoy what you do, you will be able to take on more responsibilities and projects and excel at them. The more you bring to the table, the better off you will be. You do not know at this point if the Senior Associate position is something you will like doing. It sounds like meaningful work, but you will also spend couple of months resetting yourself and starting over. Compared to your existing position, which you are more so familiar with the job now and its only going to go up. Plus you will also take on the risk of switching the jobs within 5 months. Remember certain schools ask for why you changed jobs and took on the new role that you did. Even gets asked in some interviews. If you do not have a good story/flow for your decisions - this can be seen as another negative.

At last - you are focusing on that work experience category of your application, where job title is worth <5% (close to 1-2%). What you should be focused on is that 10-15% - which is your responsibilities/achievements at any particular job. This is something you will need to assess. Stay in your current position and excel at it OR take on the new job, don't know what you will walk into, take time to learn the new position again, don't know if you will like it, take the hit of being viewed negatively for leaving the position too soon, and have to explain it on the essays/interview.

Good luck!

Controversial Essay
Managing A Controversial Essay
A controversial essay is meant to surprise readers with an argument or story that provokes an intense public debate. It would force them to take sides. Some would fervently agree with the line of argument while others would just disagree. In any event, very few would have very little to say about it, especially since the audience does not have to come face to face with an opposing group. A controversial issue would be debated by asked burning questions on it. These questions would relate to current and hot issues that could affect a large section of society. If writers want to create an immediate impression on readers, they would choose a controversial topic and elaborate on it. The purpose of completing the academic assignment remains the same – presenting readers with an effect essay about a topic with the help of arguments either supporting or opposing a viewpoint and backing it with solid evidence, examples, or hypothesis.

Some Relevant Controversial Essay Topics
It is important to remember than any topic which is not yet conformed by society as ethical or standard can be a controversial topic. Avoid topics that essay cheats could claim as their own. In other words, write papers for me and select topics that are fresh and have not been analyzed.
1.       Can males make better nurses than women?
2.       Has the internet really provided what “work from home” professionals are looking for?
3.       A sheep has been cloned successfully. Is it time to try out the experiment with humans?
4.       Has the press misused the “freedom of the press” to serve its own personal agenda?
5.       Does a “sting” operation really sting the guilty or is it a way to frame a popular personality?
6.       Is it time for all countries to appoint an international body with complete authority across international borders to deal with terrorism?
7.       Have governments legalized abortion as it is the easiest but not necessarily an ethical solution to deal with teenage pregnancy or population control?
8.       Performance enhancing drugs have come to stay. Is it only money that propagates the use of banned steroids in sports?
9.       With no control over the internet, censorship is a thing of the past and should be done away with?
10.      Can reducing weight really increase the life span of an obese person?
11.      Can an essay helper or software replace human endeavor in compiling original and unique essays?
12.      The aim of a terrorist is to draw the attention of the media and public towards an incident they feel resulted in injustice. Do the ends justify the means is this case?

Learn How To Develop An Argument By Writing An Essay on Controversial Topics
Imagine students participating in a debate. There would be situations where they may encounter twists in the debate leading to arguments they were not prepared for. The same situation has to be brought into an essay. However, there is an advantage of writing a controversial essay. The topic may head into unexplored territory, but solutions can be easily found by conducting online or offline research.
