19 year old MP

Hey guys,

The Canadian election was held this past Monday. One of the people who got elected was Pierre-Luc Dusseault. He is the youngest member of parliament in Canadian history at 19.

I was wondering what your guys' opinion on this is. I personally think he is way to young. However I think its a sweet gig to have. The starting salary is 157 731 plus benefits.

Too young - he could be very passionate about his role, but someone who hasn't even finished university/college or had sufficient work experience is far too green. Though good on him for winning, I guess.

I can't help but think that a lot of these voters in Quebec got so caught up with the NDP bandwagon that they don't even know who they're voting for...

Case in point: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/students-e…

"A massive team of new NDP MPs are coming to Ottawa from all over the province of Quebec – including many who simply allowed their name to stand on the ballot with no expectations of victory.

The most remarkable example of candidates sweeping into office on Jack Layton’s coattails is Ruth Ellen Brosseau, who won in Berthier-Maskinongé. Ms. Brosseau – who lives in Gatineau, Que. – spent most of the campaign working in an Ottawa pub, where she is an assistant manager. That meant she was nowhere to be seen in the riding, which is about a three hour’s drive east. The party did not object when she followed through with a planned mid-campaign vacation to Las Vegas."
