29, accepted into B shool - Would starting in IB at 31 be tremendously hard?

I am a 29 year old engineer and have recently gotten accepted into the rochester MBA program. I come from an engineering background with a goal to break into the IB industry post my MBA. What are my chances? After reading some threads, I am concerned about my age. How much of a difference would it make?

I feel like a good amount of post MBA associates are in their late 20s when they start, you should be fine. With that said, I have seen some older associates have a problem with the schedule demands in IB because they much rather be home with their significant other (or kids if they have). I know everyone is different but its something to think about.

Very interested to hear your experience. Any issues that some of your colleagues were a decade younger than you, and likely your boss was younger too? Were you able to handle the hours and did you have a family in tow at the time? Any advantages going into it as an older candidate?

  1. Not really but we were a small group. Our staffer is cool and I report to a 45YO MD
  2. Had a family, hours are not bad, not everywhere is GS, usually 60-65 during the week and 0-12 (often from home) on the weekends.
  3. I think you are more mature and less likely to be easily agitated. I worked a lot in my past life and understand dealing with a slow, grinding machine and difficult colleagues.
