2nd masters
Lets say someone in the UK goes to a non target for their undergraduate and then does their masters at a decent enough university but it is still not a target.
Would it be wise for that person to do the same masters again but at a top target university?
Is it worth it?
I was reading around on-line somewhere where someone was contemplating doing this but they got absolutely dicked on by other users and I am looking for a different perspective on here.
So is doing you masters again in the exact same field but this time at a strong target a good or bad idea?
What was your first masters in?
I am yet to do a first masters in maths. It will probably be at a non target but I want to redo it at a top target. The reason is my current undergrad degree covers areas of maths which I really hate. The first masters will cover more of the topics that I like and then the course I have in mind at the target is exactly the sort that I will enjoy.
Why are you doing a master's in math especially at a non-target? More like a waste of money and time.
I think non target is a bit extreme. I would say semi target. With my under grad grades its the best I could manage. Especially since I struggled with the areas of math I have covered.
To be honest, you could have chosen a more applicable route than pure math even though I don't think there is a non-academic career that would require you to know more diff eq. derivatives or double - triple integrals(and it's more like plug and chug math than anything, actually most of these things are done on the computer and the most demanding part is understanding what those numbers mean) try to get nice extracurricular activites/jobs or skills while at your master's.
What is your undergrade grade? 2:2?
If you must do 2 masters you could do your second in Finance... but would need to explain you wanted to develop your math skills for some reason.
