2nd tier B.S. Bussiness: finance
Hey WSO,
I'm looking to find an entry level analyst role in investment banking or private equity. I graduated last December from San Diego State with a 3.34. What can I realistically expect in terms of job opportunities and demand for a candidate in my shoes?
I realize grades aren't stellar and SDSU isn't a top school. Also not sure I can honestly handle the 80-120 hour weeks I keep reading on this site and elsewhere but I see a number of jobs here on the west coast that seem more 40-50hrs week -though a lot are from investment banking companies I've never heard of: Northland Securities, etc.
Despite my releavitely low grades for the industry I ranked in the 85th-90th percentile of my class.
Since graduating in December I spent some time dabbling in startups - I raised a decent amount of capital (500k, although not from anybinstitutional VC or angel groups). I'm not sure whether this experience is valuable or whether it should even be listed (because maybe I'll be seen as a risky hire who may jump to start another company - which I couldn't exactly argue is unlikely) .
I was gonna do the CAIA level 1 this September but decided to put it off till March. I was thinking of doing the CFA level 1 December but I am more interested in alternatives (VC, PE, Hedge, crowd funding) and not positive I want to work 4 years in banking to get the letters - because honestly I do think I'd like to start a few more companies in another year or two - convinced I'm going to have one that will pay off pretty big.
Appreciate any tips, opinions, and general perceptions.
What industry are you in right now?
Right now I'm involved with Medical Devices. It was by chance really
