Looks like you screwed things up. You might have to go back to business school or look for employment in a less prestigious field (bval, fp&a, etc.).

Do something cool/interesting/volunteer in order to have a story to 'spin" for the gap. While doing that, take the GMAT and start getting your recs together. Then start applying to B school.

Sawaya Segalas is hiring. Pretty okay Consumer Coverage firm. You can probably spins your Industrials research into something related to this. https://www.linkedin.com/jobs2/view/136749802?refId=&trk=jobs_home_clic…

Seabury Group is always hiring and they cover Industrials. Just focus on pitching your Industrials ER experience to this. https://www.linkedin.com/jobs2/view/104859996?refId=&trk=jobs_home_clic…

That is probably from my end for now. Let me look more into this and get back to you. Any geographical preference? PM me for details. Happy to help.

Warmest regards, Harvey

I would still focus on getting a job. I was thinking about applying for INSEAD MBA this year but don't see a reason why I would to pay for an expensive 2 years vacation. My rule has always been just network your way to land a job. And I like making money instead of going back to school and paying money.

However, if you would 1) really want to get out of ER and move to IBD and 2) you really have extra USD $100,000 in bank, why not. If not, I would really just focus on building up my resume and getting paid. There are also a few small shops that paid a portion of commission for putting together a deal, if your ultimate goal is to build up your resume and move to IBD.

A few other things on my mind is that if you really just want to make money and enjoy similar working nature as IBD, consider moving to corporate strategy or business development or internal M&A groups at major companies.

I was doing China ER and then move to business development role at a family office and recently move to IBD ECM role within the same coverage area. So it is do-able.

The pay is slightly lower but you will probably have better work/life balance and also can still move to a shop within the same coverage (i.e. Facebook > Sequoia).

Another thing would be to move east like Southeast Asia. Slight reduction in pay but the bar is set a bit lower.
