(4/4) Undergrad Review: Michigan Investment Banking Club

A while back I posted about how public universities are developing a growing presence on Wall Street. In that post, I highlighted four undergraduate programs that have earned an upstanding reputation for job placement. Over a four week span, I will give you guys a better understanding of each and the benefits of joining them.

The University of Michigan is arguably the best public school (notice I said public, not non-target) for prospective monkeys. Founded in 2007, Investment Banking Club gives its members all of the resources necessary to pursue careers on Wall Street.

The executive officers treat education as the backbone of the orgaization. Students are exposed to financial accounting, DCF analysis, Comparable Companies analysis, LBO analysis, and valuation modeling. Additionally, mock interviews, resume and cover letter workshops, and Investment Banking 101 are among the many events offered by alumni and the career program. The MIBC is extremely competitive among Ross students, and typically has 30 members.

A quote from the MIBC website regarding the IB program:

The Investment Banking Program is a formalized internship program with John W. Loofbourrow Associates, Inc., an NYC-based middle market investment bank focusing in private placements. Our program with Loofbourrow started in Fall 2010.

Members of our organization work on assignments for a broad range of deals throughout the school year. The program is meant to be the capstone program of MIBC and members are selected through a rigorous application and interview process.

Overall, the University of Michigan is one of the few target schools in which you are able to enjoy a complete college exerience (i.e. fraternities, college football, etc.). The school is ideal for students pursuing finance careers, while experiencing everything college life has to offer.

The univeristy alumni are generally very open to giving career advise and pushing your resume.
