Help!! What would You do in this scenario ??

Scenario:

  • Sent random Linkedin connection request to ceo of regional company I want to work at. He Accepts!
  • He messages Me, asks about my name (It's uncommon), and if he can "provide any information" about company.
  • I throw out the cold dm, try to not ask for a job, but let him know my interest.
  • His reply: Happy to have convo /  Please email me.

What am I supposed to do in this email? Set an appointment to talk? Drop Resume and Cover letter? Just be Friendly? I have not networked very much in past jobs, I don't know the etiquette for this!

Someone please advise!

I would love to have a chat to hear about your company, pick your brain on the future of the company or industry, what do you like about it xyz how is the culture... then after the call follow up via email again and ask if there is anyone else that he would be able to put you in touch with, you want to continue to learn about (specific aspect you want to work in) and then rinse and repeat.

thanks man, i ended up getting the meeting, turns out he wasn't really looking to add people (or maybe just not me) oh well lol. appreciate the advice tho

Easy counter here. Send an email. Tell him you're not looking to add expenses, but revenue producing work and ideas to his projects. He doesn't want to hire dead weight, so frame all the skills you bring to the organization and he at least has to consider hiring you.
